Review: Sennheiser HD595's

People say HD555 is the same but with some piece of foam in that they remove so you get the phones for near enough half the price

I have also heard that.....but it doesn't make sense....it would cost more to make the 555s with all those pieces of foam they have to produce and fit?

I now have these, knowing they were open headphones, but wow are they loud to the people around you!!

Also the jack is stupid, because it goes from big to small not small to big, therefore if you want to use it on a portable device, you have like a 3 inch jack!! Other bad point is your ears do get quite warm and itch, depending on how much blood goes to your head :D

Tell me about it....if i knew they were gonna be that loud i would have got some closed cans....i use mine in the living room, i have to turn them down as my wife complains about the noise ha ha.

Got some HD595's myself, good all round cans for gaming/music especially if you use the EQ in X-FI settings to increase the bass, happy with mine anyway had them about 9 months. :)

After some testing, I must say they rock.

Use them in my Line6 amp for the geetar, and ocassionally for my MP3 about the house. Yes everyone can hear my music, but then I couldn't care :D My music rocks

Very comfy, great sound, stay on your head, cables a good lenth and look ace

The Sennheiser HD5X5 range are pretty good, but generally over-recommended, in my experiences. They're decent with mids and highs, but have somewhat lacking bass and soundstage. The bass gets better with a ~100 hour burn-in time, but the soundstage can't be improved.

Anyway, glad you are enjoying the new headphones. :)

I too agree, I have found that when listening to vocal/acoustic the HD595 is much better, but when listening to bassy or electro soungs, the Bose TriPort aroundear headphones are much better :D

haha, I looked into these ones after reading your review...but they are way out of my price range. ..oh well. sad panda.

as meticadpa said i was wondering about the burn in and the soundstage, as far as i know most open phones dont have great bass, well not as good as some closed imo.

Got the same headphones as you and I agree with all your points. These are some great headphones. I'm actually listening to music with them now. Well, I do that 12 hours of the day seven days a week so it's not surprising

But you gotta start listening to FLAC music man. I think you're listening to mp3's since you said you opened iTunes and started listening to Yellow by Coldplay. And if you're looking for a new audio card I'd suggest the one I got now. I got an Asus Xonar Essence STX. Going to buy an amp for them soon even though it's not really needed since the STX got an built in amplifier already, but I want that extra touch. And you can change the audio chip in the STX to make it sound like you want it too. Warm, cold etc. Just some suggestions, man.

I realize this thread is dated, but since your comment there is now a famous video about the HD555 mod here.

This is the headphone equivalent to flashing a 6950 to a 6970

More importantly, replacements for the HD555 and HD595 have been announced:

There have been huge price drops lately making these a great value that will be snapped up quickly. Word of caution: like any premium brand, there are also fakes out there.

I have AKG-K301s that are also top shelf but this might be the time to "diversify the portfolio".

(Fancy way of justifying buying something I don't really need.)

love mine and bring them everywhere with me. Have currently 200 hours on them
