Recomeneded Burner?

Lock Please

Well, my trust 5 year old external dvd-rw burner died on me. Any recommendations for a good black dvd-rw? Cheap as possible, cables included is a wish of mine. IDE or SATA...doesn't matter.

Asus drives are by far the best I've ever owned... People hail Plextor as being the best of the best, you don't want to know how many f*ed up Plextors i've seen in my day.

Pioneer makes a good unit too, but I have been more happy with my Asus drives than any other drive in the past.

After looking on Newegg it looks like mine are now last years model and have been replaced by THIS.

They are completely silent, the tray motor is silent and fast, and they never coaster discs. I LOVE ASUS!!!
 
well i normally recommend NEC but it seems my drive is dying when trying to play dvd's. in fact im probably going to make a thread about it soon to make sure it is the drive. burning wise tho ive neevr had a problem with NEC, altho i usually always do slower speeds to be on the safe side

Ive got an LG one in the family PC and its quite good. Not the quietest but does the job.
 
I have to be honest, I don`t take much care in selecting them - I couldn`t tell u off the top of my head what 4 units I`ve got in action atm.

They`re not a complicated unit these days, there aren`t (Vista aside, I dunno), any compatibilty issues with hardware or software that I`ve become aware of.

If I need one, the biggest choice for me is what color it is to match the build case.

All manufs can bring out faulty units, that`s what receipts are for.

They`re disposably priced too so meh.

EDIT: lightscribe is a bit of fun ;) (the novelty wears off after a while tho)
 
I would have gone with SATA burners a long time ago if Newegg would just start stocking silver freaking SATA drives damn them.
 
I've had good experiences with Lite-On and NEC mainly, but I also owned a silver ASUS CD-Rom back in the day, it was pretty fast and VERY quiet.. so I guess I could recommend those too.
