Rate enforcement

How about some settings are enforced as I have heard a lot of arguements based purely on the "rates issue". I too think the server (gun game in partciular) would benefit from this as I feel some players have some weird settings allowing their hitboxes to be modified or something

This is a constant struggle that us server admins have to deal with. However we alter those who chose to have 'duff' rates whenever they appear.

Our other option would be use a rate-forcing plugin. However these will cause our servers to use even more resources. Making them slower for you and a bigger pita for IDNet. I think if we find a good one though we should start using it as i always found the same problem as you are.

Just be glad your not stuck playing 1.6 on intergrated graphics chip for the next month...:(

lol i have 1.6 too, great game

Just been on the gg server and almost got vote kicked for "cheating", when some people wouldnt die after emptying a clip into their head at point blank. There are some mofos around lol

Rate enforcing is one of those grey areas really.

If you enforce rates you can end up with p***ed off people complaining that you've modified their settings and messed them up. Also some people have a reason for having low rates (if they are on slow connection or located somewhere remote (like wales :p))

Well could we at least keep the rates automatically above 19999 59 59 or equivalent, just enough to stop those bullet sponges

I thought there was a addon that enforced rates??

Think it's called "AceRates" or something, was on a server I went on a while ago and it seemed to work ok.

Surely anyone with a conn that doesn't have 200k throughput would have a ping over 100 anyway? so they would be kicked??

they still have cl_interp for prediction

Yea ace rates is a good plugin although I thought it only lowered rates - happened to me a lot lol, I think overclock3d should serioudly consider it as any unfair advantage in my books is cheating :)

There doesn't seem to be anyone on the servers :( (apart from gungame/dm *cringes*)

The most people I've seen on the new server is 3 and they were all german/dutch lol.

i had higher rates than you for quite some time Mr! rate enforcement is a tough subject as unless the rates are really stupid then reg problems are going to be due to something completely different. infact default rates work pretty well, its just when everyone elses changes that things go

y. although i do have a file that i exec when i go on the deathmatch that sorts everyones rates to 20000 66 66 without exception and the gameplay smooths out noticeably

Or Australia, perhaps that's my problem :D

Ace Rates ftw tbfh

jim dont be such a performance whore:p surely a plugin cant take much resources from our pimptastic server?

secondly surely its worth it for the benfit of the server?

ppl dont seem to mind ace rates too much either that i have noticed.

I may check it out. I doubt it will be a resource hog, but the reason i try to avoid plugins like the plague is because whenever steam update the server, all of the plugins die.

It then takes me several hours to update all of the plugins (which all seem to rely on eachother to work), and I end up one step closer to my old man in the baldness league table.

the steam update last week made cvars for actual rate enforcement i think, ill try to research if I can.
