Rampage IV Extreme RAM Question

Hey everyone,

Really simple, stupid question but...

In the manual it says if you have 4 sticks to place them in the red slots. If I wanted to use the 4 sticks in just the black slots is this okay?

Thanks,
Mark

I have, but I am having BSODs and reckon it is the RAM, so am checking each stick with windows memory diagnostic and one has been flagged up straight away. I was just wondering for future aesthetic reasons if I have 4 fully functioning sticks

Guessing for aesthetics?

It'll run fine and it wont really affect performance much.
Still better off going for what the manual says though

It'll work fine but it's best to have the RAM closest to the CPU because the less travel there is between the RAM and the CPU the better. It's the reason they decided to stick the RAM on either side of the processor instead of stacking them all up one side.

It's also the same reason thunderbolt chips on the new Z77 boards are less than an inch away from the Mini-Display Port/Thunderbolt connector on the motherboard. Less distance means less resistance which results in higher data transfers and lower latency.

Hope this helped :)
