Im looking to make a 2011 system in next month or two. I was looking at the rampage extreme 4 and for some reason it isn't greatly appealing I was considering maybe the asrock champion or extreme 11 when there available size anything which is xl-atx or smaller is good. So just getting this great communities input ?

I have nothing but praise for my MSI Z77A-GD65, so I can (kinda...) recommend the X79A-GD65-8D, also. I'd say it had quite an understated design, if you compare it to its bigger brother, the BIG BANG XPower in all its tackiness.
It has an ATX form factor, and is 'only' £190.

The gd65 is bit below price range im going for the big bang 2 would be nice looking they took off bullets and chaingun heatsink

Not every day that someone has a minimum budget restraint, but fair dos.
I take it that, if you've already looked at the Rampage, that you've looked at the Sabertooth also?

Yer its hideous but practical all the existing bits im keeping from my previous set up are red black so going go with something like that maybe. Asrock extreme 11 is looking interesting.

I know very little about ASRock, so can't really pass judgement on it. I can say it looks like a very nice board, though.
Although the gold caps are a little too much for me.

I dont know how well you be able to see them on the board once its in my case with red fans on them. Though think 16 sata ports is going to be enough. Asrock are quite good these days humble background.

You think?! I...I use 4! And that's 2 more than most people do! You must have/be buying a lot of hard drives.

What concerns do you have about the Rampage IV Extreme?

I notice you have Red and Black parts already, have you looked at the EVGA X79 boards? Unfortunately they only have 4 RAM slots and not 8 but the colours are there.

I dont touch evga motherboards ever bad experience.

I've had a bad experience with EVGA too which is why I also do not use their boards. But thought I'd mention it anyway.

Why don't you want a Rampge IV? It's an amazing board. Of course I'm biased as I have one but still :P

No I appreciate the input. I fancied change had rampage e 3 just thinking there might be something different some features Iv never used before the rampage e 4 seems so very calculated. When look over it its like its set a bar this what we want rather than going what can we achieve ? I dont mind paying £450 if see all the bells and wistles and crazy things. The 4 has only 8 pin then 4 pin cpu power standard sound it doesnt really seem push boundaries.

All the X79 boards are basically the same with just little tweaks. You won't find anything special on the others that the Rampage IV Extreme doesn't have.

But I will tell you this, the RIVE has an amazing EFI BIOS. I mean seriously it is so good it is the bar by which all other BIOS should be judged and I'm not just saying that because I have one. It is an absolute joy to use. I've tried the Gigabyte EFI GUI that they are shipping with their boards and it is pants compared to what Asus are doing. I can't comment on other makers EFI's as I've not tried those yet.

The AI Suite II that comes with the RIVE is also quite nice. I wouldn't use it for overclocking but for looking at your system, doing bios updates and whatever else it's great.

I really don't think you'll be able to find a board that is better. Asus really worked hard on this board and it shows. I literally have not one bad thing to say about it and that is rare because all the older boards I've used including my older P6T6 by Asus had issues that I wasn't pleased with. This is the first board I've had that has met my expectations.

I found large differences in x58 p55 and z68 motherboards one should x79 be any difference when comes to overclocking. I find the r4e very Spartan on features for its very high price tag.

I had a whole bunch of X58 boards and they were all pretty much the same.

If you can tell me a feature the other boards have that RIVE doesn't I'm all ears.

Well true on board sound card and above 5.1, it has just 4 to rear usb3 ports, only 4 sata 3 ports, 1 Ethernet port, only v2.1 bluetooth (the re3 black edition had v3 bit step back), doesnt support more than x16/x16 without dropping to x8, only 8 power phases and other boards have higher potential maximum ram oc.
