You have some good points but what board are you thinking about apart from the RIVE? I don't really think there is a better board out there right now. We are still really only on the 1st generation X79 boards. It will take several months before we see the 2nd generation boards.
And by that I'm not talking about a different chipset revision I'm just saying motherboard makers tend to push out boards at launch which aren't as great as the boards we find at the end of a chipsets life. I think we can all identify that the last generation of X58 boards right before X79 came out were way better than the first X58 boards we got at launch of that platform.
My first two X58 boards didn't even have USB 3.0 or SATA III because those technologies had not been finalised back then and in-fact no X58 boards had them at the time of my purchase. We've just seen Thunderbolt be released and I expect the 2nd generation of X79 boards will come with either built in Thunderbolt on the Back I/O or with an add-in card. But for these developments you're definitely going to need to wait until the end of this year or to next year.
