RAM MHz & Volt question.

Can someone please tell me with 100% correct information, what difference is there between 2133MHz and the lower speeds?

What difference would there be in the overclocking department?

Which should I get?

I can get 1600MHz 8GB for £40, but 4GB of 2133MHz for £80, why the price difference?

Should I go for the 4GB - 2x2GB modules @ 2333MHz - £80

or

2x4GB modules @ 1600MHz - £40

Also, what v. we looking at? 1.65v?

obviously the 2333 mhz stuff performs better but i dont think its worth 4x more (half the ram double the price) i would get the 8gb personally

im not sure but it cant be that bad i got this overclock with some xms3 ram from corsair literally one of the cheapest kits on the market

From the reading I've done (before my purchase and after) 1600mhz ram seems to be the sweet spot. In my view now was is the higher clocked ram worth the money, but of course it depends on your goals.

I have overclocked my rig, both CPU and GPU, however I have no intention of overclocking the ram - I just like to have lots of it!

Any OC on the CPU and GPU(s) will make FAR more difference than ram speed...the exceptions being some folding activities I understand, though I'll wait for the folders here to comment on that.

My advice (heavily caveated based on your particular needs) is save your money, get the cheaper 1600 ram - it's what I did for my Gaming Rig.

Cheers for the reply Scoob. I have gone along and ordered 8GB worth of 1600. I will order some more when I have enough funds for my graphics card. Building this rig on a very very tight budget, so any savings where possible is great. All I need now is for my PSU to come from Nepas and my 560 Ti, not long now

what platform are you on?

1155 frequency>timing

amd: timing,nb frequency> frequency

1366: timing/frequency.. also uncore is very important

here are some of my benchmarks for comparison on 1155.. would have been better if the clocks were the same, but you see that they are very close. (however i do understand xp is faster than win7 by maybe 1 and a half seconds lol) 2133 7-10-7 vs 1453mhz 5-5-4
