Ram for new rig

My new rig is almost exclusively for gaming . That being said I see no reason to get mor than 8 gigs of ram , and that being said I believe I should be able to get some respectable memory for say up to $150.00 usd . The components are as follows :

3770k
Swiftech h220
MSI MPower
Samsung 840 pro 256Gb
Corsair HX 750
GPU ( yet to be determined )

Ive looked at Dom Plats and Dom GT but other than that .. clueless .. Any and all thoughts appreciated

Look for a 2133mhz kit of whichever you like the look of really.

Dominator Platinums are massively overpriced, and basically just for looks.
Mushkin have some reasonable priced kits, as do Avexir and Patriot these days. Also Kingston HyperX Predator seem reasonably priced. Or the normal Vengeance will do fine now.

Basically...you can't really go wrong with RAM

Pretty much all the memory chips are made by the same companies anyway. All companies like Corsair/Mushkin/Patriot etc just slap on their own heatsink style and sell it on as their own. It'll pretty much all perform the same.

Sounds easy ! ..... I was told once to go with the lower mhz versions .. say 1866 or even 1600 .. cant remeber their reasoning at the moment .. Any situation where that would be true ? And thankyou Jamesriley94 for the your answer

Maybe they meant CAS Latency (CAS 9/10 would be better than CL 11). With most 2133MHz kits you're going to end up with CL 11 though, unless you use a 1.65 volt kit, which is not recommended on the Ivy Bridge platform.

A lot of people do use it though, and it works fine for them but Intel recommends that you don't use any RAM above 1.5 Volts

Nah, in the past here we did used to recommend 1600mhz kits for pretty much any new build.
There used to be a far bigger price difference as 1600mhz was pretty much the standard, and so every company sold those kits, whilst 2133mhz was more of a niche. This meant that in the UK we could get 8gb 1600mhz kits for usually £30 (sometimes at Aria even they had an Exceleram 8gb for £22), but at the same time you were looking at over £60 for a comparable 2133mhz kit.
The differences between the two in performance didn't really justify the price.

Nowadays, the prices are more fair for 2133mhz, as more manufacturers seem to be selling it.

Edit: Yes iBeInspire - completely forgot about G-Skill. They're absolutely fine too. Pretty much every manufacturer is really.

i still say that optimal for gaming is 1600 cl9...there is no difference in games(dual channel does all)

The Avexir MPower ram matches the mobo perfectly. The lights look pretty cool too.

I looked at the Avexir Mpower ( orange ) early on but saw conflicting reviews and could never nail down a vender and or definate price .. Where did you get it ??

From Overclockers Uk mate. They quite often have it on their weekly specials. I bagged the 2 x 4gb kits x 2 for £79 all in.

Intel doesn't recommend it but I've heard from people that it runs fine for them. It's kinda of a guess. If it was me personally, I'd go for what Intel tells me to do and run it at 1.5 Volt.

If I remember right, if you go onto Avexir's website and go to Avexir direct, you can get it from them direct, they have a few custom choices too. i'm sure when I looked into it they came from the States. It might be worth a look

Guess I'll keep to the 1.5 v option to be safe ... and I'm checking the Avexir direct site now .. My theme is black and orange so I'm hoping there orange led option is affordable

Take a look at Samsung Green RAM, it's bloody brilliant stuff and it runs at low voltage and crazy timings for the money. I paid £95.00 for 4x 4GB sticks not that long back from OCuk.
