Wyp's personal Rig

Every one in a while we all get that upgrade bug and over time a ring changes, evolves and sometimes moves in a directions which you never expected.

over the last year and a half my rig has changed so much, with barely any components being the same since since I started my last Build, Project: Urahara.

My original plan of modding a Silverstone RV03 had to be abandoned due to time restrictions and personal problems, which made me move my rig to my current case, the NZXT H440.

Since then I have changed GPUs several times, from to R9 290X to an MSI GTX 970 and then back to an R9 290X, which turned out to be faulty and then to an MSI R9 290X which is currently on loan from the office (Thanks TTL).

Below are my Former Specifications:

OS: Windows 8.1
CPU: Intel i5 4670K - which was upgraded to an i7 4770k for the past two months
CPU Cooler: Corsair H110
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5
GPU: MSI R9 290X Lightning
Memory: 8GB Team Group 2133MHz Extreme memory
SSD: 2x 256GB Crutial MX100 Raid 0
HDD: Seagate 3TB HDD
Case: NZXT H440
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro M1000 1000w

Over time I felt the need to upgrade again, mostly because I wanted to have a PSU which was over the 80+ Bronze efficiency and I wanted to have some fun overclocking a new CPU.

When Skylake arrived I was very happy to see that base clock overclocking has returned, making it the top of my upgrade list beside my PSU.

GPU: MSI R9 290X Lightning (Borrowed from TTL)
Memory: 2x4GB of Corsair 2400MHz DDR4 Memory (£44)

Both of my Crucial MX100 SSDs have been skinned with red carbon film and have had an MSI logo on each of them (remnants of my PC's old MSI Theme).

While my rig is not exclusively MSI anymore and may not even be filled with all red compenents, I am more than happy with all the components that I have.

Now let's get down to the build.

So there you have it, my current setup. I have been overclocking over the weekend, and have already achieved a stable 4.6GHz daily overclock and have been running benchmarks at 4.8GHz.

I will give you guys an update on my Skylake overclocking at a later date, when I know my chip a little bit better.

Please feel free to give me some feedback regarding my current setup. Yes I know that the Yellow GPU sticks out like a sore thumb, but right now it is what I have and performs more than adequately.

Looks good but could you clear up 1 thing please.

In your before specs you have a 290X Lightning and in your new specs you have a 290X Lightning that's borrow from TTL.

Wot iz goin on ere ? ^_^

EDIT

Nevermind read the OP properly

Feronix is right..... Also the lighting looks saggy :/ or are my tired eyes playing tricks on me? Apart from that looks top.

She looks gorgeous mate, only thing that bothers me apart from the sag is the yellow, I'd have to paint or vinyl cover those parts either white or red to fit the theme. But all in all she's a beaut!

ps. I have a mountain of ironing to do, where do I send it?

Looks nice. If you do mod the Lightning my vote would be white to replace the yellow instead of going down the none more red/black build. Would be a nice continuation of the dragon on the outside of the case, and compliments the NZXT logo as well. Also easily differentiates it from the gaming series. Or a nice grey to match the mobo highlights and exposed heatsink. Really digging the ASUS line atm.

I think nearly everyone must be losing their mind about modding the Lightning. Clearly everything else just needs to be modded yellow. :)

The Hero and LPX look awesome.

Naaahhhahhh mate, the case has got a dragon on it so clearly it can't have anything to do with yellow. It just needs more RGB lights tbf.

dude yo ass is branded :P

I love that there's an asus board amongst all that msi branding haha

Didn't like the look of this generations MSI boards, I also didn't ant to tie myself down to one brand.

that being said I still love my case.

Aye dude, wasn't a complaint :) Asus stuff is too strong these days to ignore (that and they're not trying to bribe you with soft toy dragons)

I love the Krait motherboard, looks awesome! However the vertical sata ports are an instant turn off and I refuse to buy it... Looks really cheap with it like that. If they were normal then easily best bang for the buck. Don't know what the designers were thinking this gen when last gen board was a masterpiece

i don t like windows (both on cases and as os ), but i like this gaming rig.
a lot of hard work on it.
The best looking part is the mb, so it could be a shame to hide it.

Thanks mate. I take it that you are a linux fan then?

Since it is an MSI themed case I might change it to some MSI stuff for my work rig and move my gaming rig to another case. All this is undecided though.

I'm thinking of making a Sword art online themes PC called the Nerve Gear Rig, though again this is only in the idea stages, might try a different theme.

Oooh... now that's nice! Well done dude. ^_^

Question though - where did you buy that i7-6700k? I'm having a hard time finding it both in stock someplace and not at a ridiculous price.

I got mine from CCL online, though their prices have gone up since then. The skylake shortage is very annoying.
