Every one in a while we all get that upgrade bug and over time a ring changes, evolves and sometimes moves in a directions which you never expected.
over the last year and a half my rig has changed so much, with barely any components being the same since since I started my last Build, Project: Urahara.
My original plan of modding a Silverstone RV03 had to be abandoned due to time restrictions and personal problems, which made me move my rig to my current case, the NZXT H440.
Since then I have changed GPUs several times, from to R9 290X to an MSI GTX 970 and then back to an R9 290X, which turned out to be faulty and then to an MSI R9 290X which is currently on loan from the office (Thanks TTL).
Below are my Former Specifications:
OS: Windows 8.1
CPU: Intel i5 4670K - which was upgraded to an i7 4770k for the past two months
CPU Cooler: Corsair H110
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5
GPU: MSI R9 290X Lightning
Memory: 8GB Team Group 2133MHz Extreme memory
SSD: 2x 256GB Crutial MX100 Raid 0
HDD: Seagate 3TB HDD
Case: NZXT H440
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro M1000 1000w
Over time I felt the need to upgrade again, mostly because I wanted to have a PSU which was over the 80+ Bronze efficiency and I wanted to have some fun overclocking a new CPU.
When Skylake arrived I was very happy to see that base clock overclocking has returned, making it the top of my upgrade list beside my PSU.
Below are my new Rig specifications.
OS: Windows 10
CPU: Intel i7 6700K (was £289.99 at time of purchase)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H110
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Z170 Maximus VIII Hero (£169.99)
GPU: MSI R9 290X Lightning (Borrowed from TTL)
Memory: 2x4GB of Corsair 2400MHz DDR4 Memory (£44)
SSD: 2x 256GB Crutial MX100 (not in Raid)
HDD: Seagate 3TB HDD
Case: NZXT H440
PSU: Corsair HX 1200i 80+ Platinum
Both of my Crucial MX100 SSDs have been skinned with red carbon film and have had an MSI logo on each of them (remnants of my PC's old MSI Theme).
While my rig is not exclusively MSI anymore and may not even be filled with all red compenents, I am more than happy with all the components that I have.
Now let's get down to the build.
So there you have it, my current setup. I have been overclocking over the weekend, and have already achieved a stable 4.6GHz daily overclock and have been running benchmarks at 4.8GHz.
I will give you guys an update on my Skylake overclocking at a later date, when I know my chip a little bit better.
Please feel free to give me some feedback regarding my current setup. Yes I know that the Yellow GPU sticks out like a sore thumb, but right now it is what I have and performs more than adequately.
