Raid Card

hey guys

I need a new RAID card.

Needs the following:

4 ports

PCI-E (1, 4, or 16x)

Needs to support raid 10 (not raid 0+1).

im looking at a budget of about £100 not inc P&P.......ebay also accepted.

ideas?

Had an Adaptec 1430SA which failed and allowed me to lose 800gb of data (raid 10) (was sending faulty bits to the HDDs, no way of retrieving data for a sensible amount of money).

Also just recently tried a rocketraid 2300 series card, which when i put in didn't allow me to use keyboard/mouse nor allowed me to go into windows...(DFI board) - there was an IRQ conflict with the rocketraid card on my asus board.

so......atm.....i'm stumped.

Around that budget, the only one that springs to mind for me is the Adaptec 1430SA.

Was there perhaps something in the configuration that screwed it up or was it definitely the card ?

(they aren't very friendly to overclocking ime)

twas the card itself.

initially i thought it was just the HDD (one of the HDDs came up as failed), so i RMAd that to ebuyer and got a new drive. Then on the SAME channel a coupla months later, the brand new drive failed....then a coupla hours after, the whole array failed to be recognised.

I got something similar to that on a well overclocked AMD mobo using a raid card. Same drives, or drives in the same position failing.

Thing was they weren't failing, cos the hdds were perfectly fine, but nevertheless the raid was dropping. Atleast it was marking the drive as dirty when it shouldn't have.

Stuck the card in an Intel 965 mobo (I think it was) and it wouldn't fail no matter how much I tried to force it to.

aye what worried me is that the board i was using it on, wasn't overclocked a bit.

but either way - if i cannot find another type of card, i shall go with the adaptec as at least it worked.

then actually bother to backup onto my external 1tb drive.

Ive been planning raid for ages just for backup, but I think Im going to bin it off in favor off software and daily back ups that way.

Id hate to loose a drive, would drive me nuts!
