Okay guys & girls what do you think of RAGE the new id game.

Personally I'm a huge DOOM, Quake and Wolfenstein fan. I was brought up on them playing multiplayer games with my dad so I had big expectations for their new game RAGE. However I can't help but feel it is missing something, the id flare. Sure the character models are beautiful, animations are great, mega textures are pretty and even the game play is fun; AI diverse and missions challenging.

But for 21.5GB I can't help but think there should be more! Obliviously the textures are a bit iffy I mean they aren't great sometimes but still the game on a whole is good, creating atmospheres and really working the senses like DOOM, Wolfenstein & Quake. I mean the reaction videos of people playing DOOM3 shows how effect id can be at playing with your bravery, challenging you when you hear a groan and daring you to walk into a blatant trap.

But back to RAGE, to tell the truth as a huge fan of id it's a bit of a let down; it was fun and had a good story but I couldn't help but feel it could have been more, so much more.

It ended suddenly and then you couldn't go back (which pissed me off) like fallout 3 even though its meant to be more of a RPG than previous games. TBH it has been developed for the consoles and I can't really blame id considering how much more players there are with an Xbox or PS3 than a PC.

I just hope DOOM 4 is a step in the right direction.

I've heard it's riddled with problems so I'm staying away from it until some patches and updates have been implemented. I made the mistake of going in early with Dead Island (which has stopped working for me) and I had a little bit of fun until some problems arose and I've not touched it ever since the day it was released. I tried launching it recently and it would just not work, so I thought f*** it.

Back to the topic. I've read quite a lot of reviews and it looks like a mixed bag to me, but it does look like a game I would enjoy and I will probably download it when Steam has a Sale/all or most of the bugs have been dealt with

ID created Enemy Territory (Return to Castle Wolfenstein FREE ADDON), and that game is still alive since 2001&2003 (ET). I played it 3 years none stop, never went out apart from school lol. I will have to try this game as it may have some potential. Brink was meant to be the dogs danglies for the competition and Enemy Territory fanbase, but it failed, HARD. I heard talk about this game amongst the community and apparently it may have good features!

What's the MP like, class based or just deathmatch? >.<

I thought it was a great game. Also I was lucky enough to not have any weird problems on PC. But I played through the main story all the way, beat all the legends of the waste missions, and have played the online car combat for about 10 hours all in the last week. Even with all that playing I am still not sick of it.

I was playing with some germans, that was fun

I can speak german so i understood them, and they got mad at me because i stole that quad damage buff all the time, but it was so goddamn fun

Sounds like your having a lot of fun

. Did you buy it via steam/D2D or is it a physical copy.

Also, were you prompted to install updates/patches when you installed it?

Thanks

Yeah it is a very, very fun game. I bought the physical copy, but that still installs on steam. Also when I installed it no patches/updates had been released and steam auto patches so it probably did it at some point while I had steam running.

Cool. Thanks. I might give it a go over the weekend

yeah i didnt have any issues with the game either but online i have had alot of lag in multiplayer (but that could have been the host or my internet idk)

Hi,

There are issues if you run SLI/Crossfire...

We found that running in SLI gave far far worse performance than a single card. The game just doesn't want to support it, even if you force SLI it's...horrible. Reverting to one card it plays lovely at 1920x1200.

Using SLI AA mode - so ONE GPU for rendering, the other for AA (Enhance game settings) - works very well. I applied driver level AA of 4x and 4x SuperSampling and the game looked and played great. Interestingly GPU load was always within 3% of each other - didn't expect that.

Graphically it looks pretty good, gameplay is simplistic but fun. Some missions are VERY samey - I was sent to the same "hideout" three times within a couple of hours. Though certain bits were closed off on subsequent visits. The racing is frustrating but fun - I imagine if I had a 360 controller it'd be fine as steering with keys is rubbish...

Crafting stuff is pretty cool and the throwing star thing is dead cool once you get used to it - took me a while to realise you you CATCH the thing after using it fairly often...initially I dodged it lol.

I'm a poor shot so get through ammo quickly - needed to spend much of my cash on it...lol

Scoob.

The game itself was brilliant. A little short maybe. And Possibly to much fallout infuence Like the Arks. Pretty similar to say a Vault lol.

It is very enjopyable though. using xfire on the game somtimes gave a few graphical glitches.

Alltogeather though an xcellent game. And it seems as though Bathesda is getting the hang on games crashing every 2 seconds. I had a few crashes to start with but this was sorted out by installing new catalyst drivers as I was running the BF3 prototype ones.

FYI (sorry but just saying) the game was made by id software; one of the oldest FPS developers in the market. But published but Bethesda (id got bought out =C sad face) but there were HUGE issues (apparently) with drivers:

Source

"This system has led to incredibly solid and bug-free 360 and PS3 versions," Willits said. "Unfortunately, we have had video driver issues that have caused problems and frustrations with our PC fans. Everyone at id Software is very upset by these issues which are mostly out of our control. We are working with both AMD/ATI and Nvidia to help them identify and fix the issues with their drivers. We've had assurances that these problems are being addressed and new drivers will be available soon."

However I had no issues with the game what so ever, I am running the Nvidia (285.38) BETA drivers because I was tired of the BF3 BETA telling me my drivers were old. So I believe their excuse based on the reason I have no issue & you have no issue. I know what you mean with the fallout similarities, it seems id took fallout and built on it with the introduction of racing, and the fact the graphics are much better, personally I think the fighting is more fun & better (considering the big thing fallout introduced was a fighting system that did it for you). But good fighting isn't a surprise considering id defined the FPS genre with games like DOOM, Quake & Wolfenstein.

So I would say that yes Fallout and RAGE are very similar and Fallout probably did inspire id quite allot, but the fact they've taken the inspiration from an RPG and turned it into a RPG/FPS/Racing game with gambling mini-games thrown in as well I wouldn't say they copied fallout. (Don't get me wrong I like fallout, i just think its a hardcore RPG and that RAGE isn't its more of a Frankenstein of genres, only people like this Frankenstein

The story is way too short for 21GB but I'm just going through the side quests atm, turns out there's a bit more there but it's hard to find out when its on the "job board" thing, I thought they were more mini games not full blown quests =\ o well

I'm looking forward to the DLC =]
