Quit My Found Degree @ College

Hey all,

I started a Foundation Degree at College back in September after passing my NVQ Level 3 back in July and wanting to progress further.

Unfortuantly the course just wasnt for me and I quit at Xmas and didnt go back,

Now I didnt apply for a grant or anything and havent payed the college the £695 it cost for the course for the year (never got a bill so just kept putting it off).

Now where do I stand with paying the course fee's and when do you ussually receive a bill from the college?

As I am worried about getting a wacking £695 bill through the door and not being able to afford to pay it in one go.

Another thing I have just found is my enrollment form:

Now there was some confusion when I enrolled as to if under 18 year olds have to pay for Higher Education( I didnt turn 18 till October, the course started in September). Anyway looking at the above it would appear not so but the woman who put it through wasnt sure.

Any advice guys?

Should I just ring them,

Thanks, Sam

I was in the same position today asking about HND costing

Afaik and the guy in charge, everyone has to pay for HE whether its from ur own pocket, loan or grant

You might get an equivelent "SAAS" who cover student fees, I was full time last year and they payed me £1400 for courses, unfortunatly I am only part time this year, so I(My Dad...) had to fork out £400 for 6 hours a week! But try seeing if any places like an english "SAAS" will cover your fees

So I necessarily dont need a loan etc. until im 19?

Im 19 in the july (where the 1st year ends?) so mebbe i get the first year free?

If you start the course you WILL NOT have to pay as long as you're not 19 before you start the first year. The second year is still the same course mate. Don't take it man, they always try and get money out of you.

College's are usually very good at presenting you with any bill they can get away with, if they haven't done so yet, then you probably won't get one. Even if they do send you a bill, it will only be for the time you were there (and probably not even that as you weren't 18 until part way in)

So, as far as I can tell it would be £695/weeks you were enroled since turning 18. Now I'm not sure whether they'd use 52, or however many teaching weeks. It would probably be 52.

Your best bet is to ring up and ask. Maybe try to do it without giving your name. That way if they do try to lump you with an unfair bill, they can't.

hmm, if it's 19 as Youngie said then you've got nothing to pay.

For European Union students on full time courses (450+ hours) a book deposit of £20 is charged. This is refundable at the end of the course. Students aged 19 years and over, on full time courses will pay a tuition fee which will be a minimum of £600 (this may be higher for some courses).

I forgot to mention this course was part time,

Dont know if that matters.

I'm certain that it's the same, we did 2 courses into 1 with some ITQ or something, it costs like £450 for a days work. We did it over a month and got it free because of age.

Mine is £2200 per year :S

Is there anything clarifying that under 19s (at start of course) pay nothing towards HE?

Could do with taking it into the course leader so he stops telling everyone to get loans etc
