I'm still not sure why AMD is launching high to low versions instead of low to high as all have done previously.

Really you don't understand that?

After working in sales/marketing for too long I can tell you why.

Firstly you release a card faster than any other. Once you have done that people then see you as the top dog. This then, automatically, makes your lower end cards a better proposition because you are selling them as a market leader.

It's that that will get people's attention. Once you have their attention and have listened to them saying "Awww, I can't afford that !" you then offer them the (supposedly) next best thing.

And bingo bongo, everyone's a winner !

I bought my 5770s solely because ATI were at the time kicking ass. It made me want one. And I knew what they were up to but hey, worked on me and trust me, you would need to be skilled in selling bifocals to the blind to sell anything to me.

Ed. And as for the slogan?

Once again, marketing. That's just how it goes.

Not sure if any of you were aware but their marketing director was sacked recently and replaced with a new one.

lmao thats harsh bro

Yeah AlienX/ZOmB13 I see ur point makes perfect sense. Good thing Nvidia doesnt have to pull that crap as I think their new lower offering just might give AMD's top offering a run for it.

I will always have the last laugh when it comes time to sell.

Nice to see you dude.

As far as the AMD's 7xxx go, if it doesn't fold, I don't care. I've been pulling 6K per day for a week or 2 (I got like 60K more since I started having the RAM issues) on my oc'd Phenom II. I think I'm going to wait for the nVidia cards to launch, and get a cheap 550 Ti to experiment with the CUDA API and Fold on.

AMD is horrific to fold on there cpu's and gpus are utterly shite its a pitty cause i bet there is loads of potential out there for them

It's not that they are shite, it's just that they are unable to fold the units as efficiently as Nvidia and Intel. It's really a software related issue as far as I know. Hardware wise, the cards are powerful enough to compete with Nvidia, not so sure about the CPU's though.

as regards to gpu's its definitely hardware, that uses cuda to fold with the result of these huge numbers and amd not having that makes them useless cause they pump out numbers that are so bad a 6990 can only just beat 2 8800GTs, and folding loves high frequencies and super high icp (amds have well known crap icp)

I don't even bother folding on my 1090 anymore, it's just as quick to run GPUs alone and give them access to all the CPU they need (about 45%). A 480 point SMP takes me over a day to fold and that's 18 hour folding shifts, a 3200 point SMP took about 6 days, and this is OC'd to 4.125Ghz with a 3Ghz NB

Wow, I didn't know it was that bad.
