Valve's Steam Machine is pushing SteamOS to the desktop, and Microsoft should be terrified.

I wish it had more power. Seems rather low. I suppose depends on price and target market.
I think it is a shame that it isn't RDNA 4 and that it has 8GB of GPU memory. That said, it should be a solid gaming device if priced well.

Would have loved to have seen an RX 9050 XT-style GPU with 12GB of memory.

Microsoft doesn't need SteamOS to be terrified. All they need is to continue down the path of shoving AI-centric OS down everyone's throat. Calling it agentic doesn't make it sound better.

Anyway, it's been years since I was genuinely excited for a new piece of hardware. The entire lineup of Valve's new devices is thrilling.

Concerns about cheating from?.... Folk who give games development a bad name. Their "concerns" are moolah, not the gamers or the games. I've my doubts about this Steam Machine; the likes of Minisforum will clean their clocks with twice the storage and RDNA 4 in the medium and long-term. Steam OS as Messiah Linux Distro on the Desktop is much more interesting than the hardware. Various of your leading distros are forming circular firing squads and making a fair stab at self-deletion just as Micro$oft Windows is making a fairer one.

Edit: I've seen more extensive coverage and my doubts have receded quite a bit about the Steam Machine. I still don't see it as a threat to PC... but consoles? I might like the smell of Steam in the morning; it might be the smell of VICTORY. The Steam Frame VR; the Steam Controller & Steam OS I'm all on-board with them: if they've called this right, I see thru the mud and blood; the green fields beyond.
