Its not news just thought i would make a topic where people can post there thoughts on the situation. And if you guys have ant new info about the outage AKA hack let us no

he was on about the PlayStation Network being down

this has nothing to do with PCs, but PS3s and PSPs

there has been a security breach (not by Anonymous), and sony are trying their best to make things safe before turning the servers back on.

this means that all Playstation Multi-Player games are 'no go'

damn you anonymous hackers.

Shits me, these hackers (if thats what it is) claim to do it to screw Sony for blocking the ability to run 3rd party applications and such on the system, when all they are doing for the most part is screwing the users they are supposedly wanting to benefit.

Same with piracy on games on any system, all it does it make companies less likely to make quality games or increase the security features to the point the games are nolonger useable.

They are now meant to be taking the advantage and updating their system to tackle the issue and make some

Key improvements that's why its taking longer, its all on the playstation website, just annoying as I wanted play portal 2 with my friend as i have it on pc and he has it on ps3

Sony didn't get owned, all those customers who spent their hard earned money on a console got owned by some thick idiot who thinks what they are doing is justified.

Wouldn't say they are thick... And yes Sony got owned. The ps3 got hacked so it could play backups and run 3rd party software and then PSN gets taken offline.

I'm pretty sure they will catch the people who did it tho and I think a massive jail sentence is in order.

if anything, these hacktivists are not really helping themselves with bringing PSN down, as its just annoying the gamers who just wanna go online and play, theyre not intrested in running 3rd party software etc, they just wanna game

at the end of the day, no one has a gun to your head to buy Sony/MS/Apple products. the the money these companies have made from me have been from me choosing their products and services.

think this is just a sign that you can have too much democracy

my 2 cents/pence

I realy dont get it to be fair. Yes Sony took off the Install other OS feature with an update. So people decided to hackit to try and get linux backon the system. Then because the guys who did it, let people advertise the hacks on their website. Sony took them to court. Yes I do belive that when you buy a PS3 or anything it is then yours to own and to as you please to. So what the guy did was perfectly ligit in my eyes. But what is not legit is him making money by letting other ps3 hackers use his site as an advertisment area for what could be considerd Black market items, that allow the use of pirated software on the playstation 3. So to be fair Sony do have a right to take leagle action against him for that.

But what the Hackers are doing by saying its for the gamers, is absolutly total garbage, and just them trying to justify themselfs making alot of people very unhappy over the easter break. With the edition of steam being introduced onto the PS3 I think they will of just made things worse as I can see sony making all their games online activation only. with the help of steam. Who we all know are very popular with game manufacturers due to their anti piracy systems.

I cant understand the fuss over installing bloody linux onto a PS3. I brought a PS3 to play PS3 games. If i want to use linux ill run Backtrack 4 live CD. on my PC. as its a cool little OS. what good is a bloody PS3 with linux installed.

what cerbrus2 was partially correct

a group of hackers, following a turk called Anonymous, hacked the PS3 in the same fashion that was used to illegally install "backed-up" game copies on the PSP (pandora).

this person, Anonymous, was found and dealt with about a month ago. The result was won by sony without a lengthy legal battle. the sites were brought down, and the code was given to sony. sony used this code to quickly issue a patch for the PS3 systems

However, another group, who felt bad for Anonymous's struggle with sony (and threw their rattles out of the cot), launched their own attack on the servers, NOT external systems.

the new attack has brought to light new flaws in the server-side architecture. so, they have actually done sony a favour.

to my knowledge, sony will be releasing a completely new firmware for all PS3 systems. it will appear as a new update, but will really be a fresh OS install. only very few gamesaves will be affected.

Steam is there to protect the legitimate end user, and does it's job very well,i think it's a good thing imo.

Some of the gamepacks you can buy from them are very good value for money, and you wouldn't nessecarily find those in the shops.

But as you well know, no sooner than updates are released, hackers will have found a way around it.

It's the nature of the beast.

software is never UNhackable

hardware (ROMs, not ePROMs) are the best defense

Took the hackers along to hack the PS3 compared to the 360 AND you can do alot with the 360. Flash the drive jtag ETC. Sony could still bounce back and block the jailbreak hack but mmmm them damn hackers always find away.
