Project: MATX Water Cooling

Thanks a bunch.

I have some temperature results running the fans at 7 volts.
The system has been folding for 24 hours on both SMP and GPU.
The CPU is running at 3.8GHz, and ambient temperature at time of reading was 22c

Max CPU temps:
54c
57c
58c
55c

Max GPU temperature 69c

Not to bad considering the system is so quiet.

Small question, is it a bad idea to run 2 fans off of one 7 volt fan speed reducer?

It shouldn't be bad, each fan might get less than 7V but it shouldn't do any harm.

noctua says to use one each on their LNA. hadn't seen or heard about corsairs.
it would depend on the rating of the resistor and the amp draw on the circuit.

Thanks guys, I was worried because the resistors on the fan speed reducers get very hot. I am using these Zalman 7 volt resistors cables:

never be worried when resistors get hot, they are literally designed to reduce current by transferring some of the energy to heat ^_^

its when they arnt getting warm that you have an issue (cause they aint doing anything :p)

60% of the voltage has gotta go somewhere and the lil ceramic is the heatsink.

i just use the PSU red and yellow for 7volt output. im not running 10+ fans
on that circuit, so im good..
popped the black wire out of the molex and placed it in the red (opposite-side
of molex connector) socket and voila! 7volts.

QFT and i have done that myself.

Then wondered why my D5 ran like crap when i forgot to swap it back over for another build........

wow mate looks pretty sweet !!
very nice job !! :)

Thanks :D

The molex trick is an old school way of getting 7 or 5 volts. I have done this in the past.

This is why I got the resistor cables, now I don't have to remember the swap the molex wires around every time I swap components and I have been swapping components a lot lately.
