Project 'Desmo'

Another fatter Rad :) plus a pump I didn't actually need.

More fittings and fans

I now have 3 D5 Next's

Torture devices

In situ to make me cry

The reason I have 3 D5's (well 4 actually if I include my daughters PC) is that I have one running happily in Tuxedo and I had a spare but it's SATA connector was missing the nub at the end. When I redone the CPU block with new gaskets I hooked up the spare D5 and Res but it wouldn't power on so I ordered a new one. Replacement duly arrived and I saw that the Seasonic Sata cable I had selected was keyed for the nub to be facing down on the right whereas the D5 Next connector wanted the nub on the left facing up. I burrowed into the Seasonic bag and pulled out flatter Sata cables and with my new knowledge, powered on the old D5 no problem.

The big rad is the Airplex Radical 360/4 is a formidable piece of delrin, aluminium and copper with 70mm thick core. It'll go on the bottom once I pysch myself up for the pain of fitting 24 inserts, tapping 24 fan holes and lining everything up on the Lian-li mount.

The slimmer Airplex Radical 360/2 will be mounted at the side vertically. It's a baby at 40mm x 140mm X 400mm 🙂

I'm sticking with the Noiseblocker eLoops in push pull.

Rads in tomorrow. I have a spare 280 that I'll use to dial in the CPU block on the bench. It's not called a kyros cuplex VARIO for nothing 😜

If anything, this just shows that i'm used to AquaComputer

Big Case, Big Rad

Looks rough, but i'm not spending €170+ because of some scratches that will only show up on a very sharp macro :p

Trials and tribulations...
First off, the O11XL is lovely to work with. Bit of room to get fingers and hands in.
Love the M.2 pop holders in the Hero, makes populating a breeze.
So...
I'm currently running the following.
3 fans pulling air in vertically at the side.
3 fans pulling air up and pushing through the single fat rad.
3 fans in the roof pulling air in.
1 fan exhausting at the back.
9950X3D is watercooled under an AquaComputer cuplex kryos NEXT VARIO VISION at about 5C delta over ambient at idle and nudging 75C when under heavy test load.
Gpu is an air cooled Asus Prime 9070XT OC
Storage = 2TB Samsung 9100 Pro and 2 x Samsung 990 Pro 4TB
Initially I was running with 4 * 32GB Gskill TridentZ 6000 but I could not for love nor money get it to boot at anything over 4800MT/s. Performance in PCMark was lower than my Ryzen R9 7900 & Rx9070 on X670e so dropped a couple of sticks to take stock.
Current running 2 * 32 at 6000.
Had a funny issue the day after I built it up whereupon if I put a USB stick in, it would shutdown. Then it got to the stage where I could leave it 5 mins and restart where it would get to the desktop and then shutdown. Thought I might have had a air lock and Cpu spiking in temp but no, cpu sitting at 34C. Removed the USB headers, same issue. Removed the 9070, same but took longer to crash. Smart erase, reinstalled everything. Bang, down it went. Swapped the power lead... All good in the hood.
It is now running Yuri Bubliy's Hydra 2 sandbox for determination best weighing of pbo, voltages, oc. This will take a day, maybe 2 and then I'll move onto tweaking the Gpu. Im humming and haaing over getting a 5090 and just being done with it but then I see yet another account of one self combusting and I'll tell myself to wait for a RX 10090 XTX :)

Pfft - Desmo is dead. It had spent the night downloading a fresh install of Elite Dangerous and I popped into DCS to start it's update and Pfft, gone.
If its the CPU then that'll be my second 9950X (or X3D variant) that has died on me in 12 months. MB is showing signs of life so that pointing towards cpu at the moment. Disappointing.

Dude those rads are amazing. Absolutely glorious !

Disappointing about the AMD jank problem. I have had it myself. Had a 3600 die on me. I hope you get it all sorted out dude.

Took the 9950X3D out and it looks perfect, same with the X870E. Brushed off the old R9 7900 and X670E combo, hooked up to the Seasonic Vertex and nada. Pilot lights appear on the motherboard but nothing happens. So I've a Seasonic PRIME TX ATX 3.11600 on order, bit overkill but hey ho. Seasonic will hopefully RMA the Vertex.

Stripped a vintage / retro box I was building which has an EVGA 650W and I was able to boot both Crosshair motherboards, massive relief and a complete PITA as I've stripped the CPU, Motherboard and PSU out :p - I'll use the time to tidy cables and stuff.

@AlienALX - Those rads look and act the part. I have a PCMark 10 run from over the weekend where the X3D averaged 56C which was a 21C delta on the ambient at the time and we nudged 5795 Mhz. Wait till winter :)

The nice people at Seasonic had sent me an RMA number by the time I got up at 5:40 which is progress. I had sent a note to OCUK on my original assumption that it was the CPU yesterday, have yet to hear back. I can still install to 'Desmo' in its hobbled state once I put back into the case.

Well that's good news. Especially working out what was wrong quite quickly. That can be long and painful, especially if you don't have a bugger load of spare parts.

In the meantime, the replacement arrived, a Seasonic Prime PX-1600 ATX3.1 & PCIe 5.1 ready

Rats nest of cables
