[Project]: Big Bro' Prodigy (BitFenix Prodigy E-ATX mod)

That sense of dissapointment when you scroll through an epic build log to find no more updates.... MOAR PICS!!! :p It sounds and looks incredible :D

Hah, sorry to disappoint! :(
I have an exam this sunday and after that I'll be able to work on the project! :) Hopefully the motherboard will arrive soon enough too.
Thanks!

the window is done extremely well this mod is gonna be awe inspiring i look forward to more updates :D

Thanks a bunch! :) I'll try to keep the rest of the project just as good.

Hey Nikkop,

Yeah its been a mental busy time recently but always love looking forward to getting my teeth back into the project :)

hahahahaah you absolute mother F%&%*&%* :)
I cant believe you went for that mother board awesome choice dude and such a great mobo AAANNNNNDDD would go perfect in my OrangeBox dont you think, you knew that right :D !!

I have added a pic of the top window, I will place a fan in the top and plan a formation of holes 120m2 in the formation of the BITFENIX logo to let air exhaust through the Acrylic, you have to try these things !!

At the moment The Orange Box is now broken down re primed for a new colour and a re-position of the mobo simlar to yours, sorry mate I have to steel that idea its such a great one :)

Keep the updates coming and hail the 'Gigabyte z77x-UP7' :p

Hah, indeed the z77x-UP7 is one sweet motherboard, can't wait to try it out. I'm also very in love with orange and yellow colors in computer builds, they are very uncommon it seems!

Nice with the top acrylic, waiting to see those cuts you mentioned :)

Are you also going to squeeze an ATX/E-ATX in there, or what do you mean by stealing my idea? :O :D

Hopefully the motherboard will arrive soon enough, can't wait! :)

Best Regards
Nikkop

Hey NIKKOP,

your mobo arrive yet !!?? for me I will stick with my ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe so no ATX/E-ATX............ and yeah dude I have robbed your idea of moving the mobo and sitting it on the back wall, hope you don't mind, I think its a great idea, especailly for you cramming in an E-ATX and for me because where the mobo was originally with everything in was just not tidy enough, so maybe this way with the mobo on the back wall might make things a bit neater. I am in the throws of this now on my ORANGE BOX build.

I am really interested in the next stage of your build and how you will setup and place all your peripherals inside, how will you attach the mobo to the back side panel, and how will you carve out the rear of your rig to accommodate the new placement of your hardware.

I am looking at this now on my build and well its getting there you could say but its isn't all plain sailing, all good fun though.

Look forward to your updates !

KANEY :)

Hi!

Sorry for my late reply. I usually read my replies in the morning or on my cellphone hence I don't have time to reply then and then I forget it during the day :P

My mobo hasn't arrived yet :( My contact person regarding the motherboard is figuring it out so I should get it soon enough I hope :/
I saw the modification you made with putting the motherboard on the side, looks nice! :D Now it can be seen properly from the window as well, not just lying down on it's back lol.
What will you do with the rest of the space inside? :)

Thanks for being interested and following me, makes me glad! :D
I have been working on the project here at home but I haven't done it all yet so I can't post an update yet. I focus on posting large updates that covers a whole step in the modification, not just tiny meaningless updates :P
But soon enough I should get something up!

I have figured it all out how to place the stuff so everything fits. And it's really fun and a challenge to do so, but it's damn fun! :D
Half the fun of a project is the planning if you ask me. Sitting with the case and figuring out where to put all stuff, how to do it and if it's possible.

As I said I hope I get an update out soon, I've got a few things left to do before I can make a full update and I'm studying at the same time so I got to plan my spare time well :P

Thanks for following and for your kind comments, I appreciate it and enjoy talking with you!

Best Regards
Nikkop

Hi again fellow modders!

I thought I could share with you a "teaser" of what I've been working on the last couple of days when it comes to the project.
Enjoy! ;)

Modification of the motherboard plate and test fitting the PSU and the motherboard. - 03/2 -2013

Hey,

Hope everyone is doing well and that you’re hungry for an update! I myself have been pretty busy trying to finish a college course and an examination assignment in another course.
I have now had time to process all the images and do a update!

( Yesterday, I was shocked to know that my last project, G5 Unlocked, are at the top six best modifications for the month of January at Bit-Tech: An honor to me as a beginner modder.
Please check It out and cast your votes on your favorite builds!
G5 Unlocked by Nikkop | bit-tech.net
)

This update will be about how I modify the motherboard plate to fit on the chassis, how I test mount power supply (many want to see this) and how it will look like with a motherboard test fitted! (What the teaser image was about) :)

Enjoy! Do not forget to comment or ask if you have any questions! :)

Okok, we begin by looking at how the motherboard tray’s I/O panel relate in size to the chassis!
As we see, it is a little bit off the page and will not go getting into the case, modification must be done!

I throw in the motherboard tray before modification to show that it is too long/wide and modification must be done.
65977899.jpg

I select what is to be cut off by first drawing a line and then add a bit of tape so I know how much to remove.
38597296.jpg

I tighten the plate to the kitchen table and prepare the jigsaw. Here it should be slaughtered! :)
(My girlfriend is worried each time I saw in the kitchen that I would "accidentally" cut in her nice table! :P )

We pull up and saw on! Can tell you that there is quite a lot of metal splinters flying here and there and sawed metal does not smell like flowers!
Do not forget to sweep up everything as it is barely visible, but becomes large piles of metal shavings if you sweep it up.

We try inserting the plate in the chassis when it has been sawn, and yes, it fits nicely!
You may wonder why I put it inside the chassis and it is because I want to see how it relates to the size and when I test fit, I have to have it inside the chassis because I haven’t sawn a hole in the bottom of the chassis yet.

However, we are not done yet! I have more to be done on this sheet and now you will see why!
Here is a sheet metal piece with the PCI-brackets, that's where you mount the video card/expansion card.
72123549.jpg

I follow the contours for the PCI-bracket and mark with a pencil so I know how much space it takes, even if I would take the brackets off.
61785123.jpg

There, now marked with masking tape what will be removed. I pull up the saw and saw on!

And here we have the results!
You probably wonder why I cut off so much of the plate width so it became thinner? - Keep reading! ;)
86345636.jpg

Here is the plate inside the chassis! Sitting really good and just as I wished!
As you can see the tray’s I/O is now smaller but closer to one edge of the chassis!
Why? Well it gives me the space behind the motherboard plate. There I can put stuff that will not be seen through the chassis window.
Why would I want that?
17172356.jpg

Tadaaaaaaaa!
Yes, you see that right! The power supply will be placed behind the motherboard plate. In this way, it will not be visible through the window. There is also more space that will be used. For what we will see in the future! ;) But PSU placement is fixed and it is perfect!
unboxing and review of the power supply comes at a later stage when I had time to try it!

55616497.jpg

PS! As you can see in the pictures, it is the power supply back placed against the front of the chassis.
Of course it will not look like this later, but it was just to show that it fits! :)
The power supply back will be placed against the back of the chassis, of course!

So okay.
Now we have modified the motherboard tray’s I/O plate to fit inside the chassis, and also managed to place the power supply.
But how will it look like with a motherboard in place?
I test fit a little fast with an old Gigabyte Motherboards for AM3 CPU.
This is not the motherboard that will be used later.

I myself am very pleased so far and believe that this project will be awesooome to the end! I am at the beginning of the modification but it has begun to take shape, I’m so thrilled!

Or what do you think? :) Do you like the placement of the motherboard and power supply? :)
I myself am happy to say that I see much potential in this building and how compact and powerful you can get it.

I am more than happy to listen and hear what you have to say! So just comment on!

Hope you enjoyed this update!

Next update will involve unboxing and similar of Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP7
Take care and thanks in advance!
Best Regards
