No in-depth post here, Not many pictures and they're potato iphone pics that I sent to her as progress reports.
So my lady friend, in her infinite wisdom, decided she wanted a new PC to play WoW. No problem, right? Until she decides she wants the BitFenix Prodigy M.... I tried to convince her to go for the Corsair Air 240 but apparently her heart was set and I'm not allowed an easy life.
Low specs but *waves budget hands* and it's World of Warcraft.
CPU: Intel i3 6100
Mobo: Asus B150M-A/M.2
GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ OC RX470
PSU: Fractal Design Tesla R2 500W
RAM: Avexir Core White DDR4 ( 2x4GB ) 2400mhz
SSD: Samsung 750 Evo
If I'd had my way it would have been an i5 and a lesser GPU since WoW being largely CPU bound makes little use of it, but hey, CPU can easily be upgraded later.
Now onto building the damn thing with it's stupid upside down airflow.
All was well in my head, until she insisted that she wanted the front I/O on the left side, and didn't want the side brace/hard drive mount leaving in.
Swapped the door, whipped out the side and got the PSU and board bolted in, nice and easy.
It's at this point I realise it's not going to be as easy as I first thought due to non-modular PSU and the distinct lack of space for hidden cable runs. A couple of the unused cables (molex and another sata) would fed through a small cutout up by the 5.25" bay, and bundled up in there, never to see the light of day again.
The 4 pin CPU power was originally going to be along the back of the mobo tray and through the small cutout in the bottom right corner, as is to be expected, but the panel on the now reversed door for mounting the SSD (I would have removed it but it was the only remaining place for the drive) quickly made it clear that there wasn't going to be room so we ended up with this.
Since she wanted the side panels reversed the power and reset buttons would have been upside down. 5 minutes and 7 screws later
Cable management went out of the window completely, and this picture is the reason I will never agree to build into a Prodigy M again. Many swear words and exasperated growls were involved.
Eventually it all fit. Cables were shoved unceremoniously into the dark corner behind the PSU to live their life in bundled disgrace.
You can just see the aforementioned spare cables bundled in the 5.25" bay on the left
And finally, this is how she stood. Threw in a spare BitFenix Spectre from my Shinobi at the rear.
I'd still like to upgrade her CPU at some point and a proper cooler, as well as sort the airflow configuration, but for now it'll have to do as I'm sick of the sight of the thing.
