Problem with OC3D Forums.

Hey guys,

I didn't know where else to post, but I have a setting problem I'm hoping can be fixed quickly. Every few minutes (and it must be like 2 to 5 Minutes) I get logged off from the OC3D forums. This is very annoying because it takes me sometimes longer to write a post, and then it would display that I "do not have permissions to post" because it logged me out of the forums. And then I'd have to type in the whole post one more time :(

How can I get rid of this crap? Is there a way that I'd only get logged off like once every hour or day?

Thanks in advanced

I have it where if I'm on here on my laptop and then sign in on my PC i'll get insta-logged out from my laptop.

I'll make sure this gets noticed by the other staff members, see what their thoughts are.

I just opened the forums on my phone and refreshed the page on my pc, nothing happened. Maybe that's because my browsers (both phone and Chrome) are set to remember my pass for this site?

I too have to re-login from home when I login from work and vice versa.

Also, if I don't tick the 'remember me' box it will randomly log me out during a session. This might be what the OP is experiencing if they too don't tick that box.

Best thing to do is flush and clear everything on your broweser and start from scratch.

Its always an issue your end not ours.

i only get that when i log in from school because i don't choose the remember me option there. otherwise it doesn't matter from where and with how many hosts i log in simultaneously.

It's odd though, I have that issue on the iPad and the MacBook. And I have the issue in MacOS and Win 7 with Mozilla and Chrome.

I do change between those often. Maybe is because of that?

But it's so annoying that I get logged off every time I write a longer post. I have to keep refreshing or doing something. If I just type and nothing refrehes I'm logged off very soon...

It is really annoying to hear that it's only an issue I have :( I was hoping it was just a fail-safe against spambots and that there is a setting needs to be changed...

Edit:

Ok, I'm using only Mozilla and MacOS now and in the last 10 minutes I got logged off. I will keep you guys informed as more tests are completed

Edit 2:

Chrome + MacOS doesn't work well either. After 10 minutes I get logged off... Gonna try Windows next.

It's to do with session cookies and how each browser handles their expiration differently. When you log in, a hash key is generated and stored somewhere safe on the site. If you login somewhere else that hash can change, thus logging you out from where you were.

It's technically a security feature of the forums software, designed to stop people from utilizing your cookies to login when you're logged in elsewhere.

someone said to me the other day. "the customer is always wrong but let them think they are right."

on a side note i cannot log in on my s3 chrome app. anyone else have that prob. it sill say the thanks for logging in redirect message but then when it finishes loading im not logged in. not going to ruin my day just thought i is wierd.

I think it's definitely something to do with your connection , I can log in on my desktop and stay logged in all day. I don't know about portable devices because I don't have any.

I don't know what to do. I tried everything I could think off. I also have two Internet connections, so I will try surfing over the other. It's weird though that this is the only forum I get logged off from constantly

I did what TTL recommended and deleted everything, yet I still have the same problem.

I could test with the freshly reinstalled folding-farm Linux OS-system.

I really hope you're right and it's some port or something, and that the other router and connection will not have that problem...

Tbh, I don't think this is a problem at our end.

I use chrome on my laptop and desktop, both sync everything with each other, yet when I log in on one, the other logs out - even from the same IP.

I don't see it as a massive issue really, as I rarely use my laptop anymore, but I'm not entirely sure it is an 'issue at our end' ...or indeed an issue at all for that matter.

Under the exact same circumstances, on the old forums, this never used to happen.

I swiched now to the other router I have. One is 3G the other DSL. Pretty obvious which one I use 24/7.

But yeah I switched to 3G now, hoping that this might fix the issue.

The thing is that I primarily use Mozilla on my MacBook. Chrome's spell-checker just doesn't work so well if you use multiple languages. Hence I still prefer Mozilla usually.

On the iPad I use only Chrome though. I will see if I get logged off OC3D in the next 20 minutes or so being on the other router. If that actually fixes the problem I'm good.

Then at least I know where to look for the problem. But also I do have the option of connecting to the other router whenever I want to. both routers are at the far ends of my apartment as the phone lines (go figure) are at the far west and the bes 3G line (and soon LTE line) is at the far north-east.

But the 3G line ain't so bad here though. I could switch if I really wanted to. The problem is that my desk is on the far west, that and I have poor connection to the other router there. But I'll figure out something ;)

Edit: No luck with the other router neither. After less than 20 minutes I got logged off...

Damn! That is so depressing. I don't know what to do. It's not like it's any different with the other router, with me deleting the history etc., with Windows 7, with the iPad or with Mozilla/Chrome!

Edit:

Wow, no I figured out what the issue was. How stupid is that: I use lastpass to log me in to the forums automatically and I noticed in the split second that there was no check to "stay logged in" (or whatever it says).

So I deactivated the auto-login type deal and checked that box, now everything runs fine. How embarrassing...

Glad you found it though, I imagine someone was going to try and bake my noodle to figure this one out.
