Getting tired of the Iphone 11 Pro Max now. Mostly the 64gb. It just isn't enough. I thought about an Iphone 16 but they are stupid money in 256gb. So..

And then a wallet case to match.

Two nights ago I had a dream....

I had a dream I had my Bung Dr V64 back. With its RGB SCART modded Jap N64 AND the US water melon one. Long story short I took it to the USA and found out they did not have SCART and because it was RGB modded it would not work over AV any more. So I brought it all back to England and got sick of lugging it all around so I sold it to my slippery cousin. It was this, BTW.

I also had this for it.

And the upgrade to the cart storage rom. IE, 32m instead of 16 so you could play the handful of larger games like Conkers and ETC.

So what did it do? well, you loaded N64 roms onto a CD. You then piggy backed it onto the underneath of the N64. Then you would load said ROMs into the RAM and hit a button and it would then fool the N64 into thinking it had a game cart in. IE, the first backup device for the N64. I also had a Wild Card for my SNES, as cart games were so expensive.

Any way two nights ago I had a dream I was playing Worms Armageddon on my setup and yeah. Dreams are expensive !

I bought a Jap N64. Why Jap? well the UK console runs 50hz and maxes out at 50 FPS. The Jap and USA machines were 60hz, aka 60 FPS. My friend spent over a month trying to beat my Waverace scores before we figured out that

A. His game ran slower and
B. So did the clock in his game.

So basically it was impossible for him to beat my times lmao.

£40 delivered from Ebay. Has a UK PSU so will work. Missing the Jap AV cable but amazingly I found one for £15 inc.

You can't use the UK one. Wired differently. Will talk more about that in a min, but grabbed a new clone controller as the original sticks are horrible and turn to powder.

I then bought this.

This (this converts it to upscaled HDMI)

And finally this. Which will hold all 400 odd games (390 official then Jap versions)

I wouldn't have done this but all in I spent £170. Which is not that much more than a mini console with hacks and etc. The N64 is the hardest console to emulate and certain games like Mario Kart don't work properly (audio is horrible).

Oh yeah and I may have bought all of this for my PC too.

Still have my SNES it's the only console that will never be sold as i have it built with 60hz switch and a Chinese variation on the super wild card. Tbh it's completely pointless but it's the one console I'll never part with.

Unpopular opinion, but I loved the N64. One of my favorites for sure. I kept all my consoles other than the NES I sold when I was young and stupid. My wife gifted me one a number of years back though, so problem solved.

How well does that RetroScaler work? Old consoles are so bad on an LCD that I can't even play them lol. So bad in fact that I've been browsing facebook marketplace looking for a Sony Trinitron CRT.

My fave console ever. Bar none. It had far fewer games but the games it did have were class leading.

The upscaler seems to look good. There are a few reviews on YT. I won't know until it comes of course..... I'll update in due course.

Last of the upgrade. The board is impossible to access once the GPU is looped, so I am going to make sure its full.

Forgot one thing...

And going back to the N64. I am going to upgrade the blue controller to hall effect from 8bitdo.

The stock N64 stick itself is absolute junk.

I am going to get a Super Famicom and reshell and get a cart mod for it too. It shares the same AV cable as the Jap N64, so switching will be easy.

The Wildcard is far more useable than the Doctor V64. See, with the Doctor you needed two AV sockets as it uses its own (so you can see the menu and load the games) and then one for the N64 also. Which is why none of them are selling on Ebay atm. It's just a lot of faff over nothing you can't do with a £50 cart.

I gave my Wildcard to a pal before I left the UK along with my Saturn and etc. We both collected consoles.

The only issue i have with my wildcard variation is i can't read or speak Chinese makes life difficult 🙃

Thou it works well enough and honestly i don't use it it's hidden away next to the PC.

The only two other consoles i own are the ps4 ps5 and a retroid pocket 2.

Thou I'll be really honest here if i end up needing to get a ps6 to play the final part of ffvii remake im going to rage and square will know about it trust me on that.

I've still plenty to play as me and gaming these days well I've to be in the mood but if spring oh I'm straight to the beach instantly 😅

Ah memories of a Friday or Saturday night bundled round a friends playing 4-player GoldenEye, WWF No Mercy, Perfect Dark etc. Those were amazing gaming days.

Slappers only on GoldenEye being a particular favourite haha.

What!? I didn't know this was a thing. I'll have to replace mine too!

I didn't either. The one thing I fookin hated was the construction of those sticks. Within a month you're producing Columbian powder and within 3 they go stiff and inaccurate.

Massive design flaw tbh.

It was £16 or 20 bucks. A bargain imo.

Mario Golf was our fave. Four player. You could hurl insults at the other players to put them off when it was their shot.

Mario Party was absolutely hilarious too. My cousin had this really annoying girlfriend so we all used to gang up on her to make sure she never won anything 🤣 Not all heroes wear capes :ROFLMAO:

Beyond the replacement sticks 8BitDo and others make; there are other projects out there trying to make truly long-life or borderline indestructible gears and bowls so people can still keep the original sticks. I've not personally used them, only replacing one of mine with a standard N64 style stick before these hall effect sticks became readily available.

I'll probably go for hall effect next, but still go for the classic N64 look rather than GameCube.

And they all either give up due to the complexity or fail, or they are $250. Which is a joke.

I watched a video on the steel stick debacle the other day.

Aye. It's nuts that people shell that much when you can get decent enough new sticks like the 8BitDo ones for something like £15/$20 which will probably last long enough that by the time you've spent over $250 on them that you're probably pushing up daisies at that point.

The steel bowl intrigues me because I am a sucker for over-engineered solutions but $250 for a single one? Oh hell naw. Still, I'm surprised those steel bowls haven't popped up on AliExpress or Temu yet.

What video did you watch? I haven't seen or heard anything about them for a while.

In the video I watched it showed that the complexity and accuracy needed for the bowl and stick was so ridiculous no one could mass manufacture them. And that is why they have not popped up on Ali etc.

That is the video there I think.

There are a few hall effect solutions but none of them perfect. A cheap one misses half the analogue path, and the 8bit do which has a click down for a extra button mod. Edit, but the 8bitdo is generally very accurate.

The reason why the steel sticks are worth so much, cost so much and so desirable? speed runners. They 100% need the accuracy. No one else does though, so I won't sweat over it. Far too old to be that precise or think that quickly with the reactions needed now.

But yeah in the video it shows how they die very quickly leading to inaccurate movements, and the nature of them being finite is starting to show now. Even Nintendo's own re release is not as precise as the original. I suppose on Switch it doesn't matter too much tbh.

Oh and a quick update on said N64 stuff. The transparent red controller arrived today. Has a hall effect stick in, but suspect it's the crap one. Hoping I can put the real N64 guts and 8bitdo in there. Depends how it was moulded ! The Jap video cable is here too.

The multi cart is coming with RM tomorrow, and I think the shell will with Hermes. Ironic then that what I am waiting for will be the thing I actually bought from the UK ffs.
