Possible fix to coil whine? true?

i had a couple of 7970, with silly levels amounts of coil whine, and ive read about alot of fixes, but the what people seemed to say the most is to just use the cards
eventually once the components are worn slightly coil whine decreases, which is true, I cant really hear mine now unless its getting like 4000fps at some menu screen

There's the hot glue method over the problematic capacitors isn't there?

Most cards have closed caps now so the glue method wont work.
I had a whiney 7970 and tried the idling on a game menu for 3 +12 hour nights and it didn't change a thing.
RMAd the card and the new one was even worse. Then changed it for an ASUS DCII and that one was quiet.
It seems it's especially the ref designs who have the coil whine problem.

You could only fix it by replacing the parts that are whining.
Basically it's coils that are buzzing. They are fixed into place with epoxy but sometimes they buzz (sounds like whining as it's so high pitched).
The only time I've ever had it was when I damaged a motherboard. It was rated to take a high wattage CPU but not if you overclocked it which damaged the coils (overheated) and after that they whined.
If something I bought new did it? chit, I would RMA it in a heart beat. I'd never put up with that noise if I had a choice it's really annoying.

Today seems to be the day for noisey components!
It has been known for psu's with high ripple to cause video card whine (twice I've mentioned high ripple today). Additionally the noise could actually be coming from your psu instead, the high load from gpu putting load on a struggling psu.
Do the power cables supplying your gpu have ferrite cores present (at the gpu end)? These help reduce high frequency interference on the power lines; may be a possible cause.
