poor performance :(

I have recently built what I thought was a pretty high spec system but seem to be getting pretty poor performance from it, 3dvantage score was only around 10000. and only get a windows experience rating of 5 due to memory operations per second.

motherboard is AsusP5ND

processor is Q9450

I have 2 x MSI GTS8800 512's

8GB ddr2 800mhz kingston hyperx ram

1000w iCute psu

Running Vista ultimate

I have no clue about overclocking so all bios is default and set to auto.

Attached is the info from CPU-Z & GPU-Z if that helps at all.

Where am i going wrong and what is causing the apparent lack of performance, or maybe this is a good rating for my set up???

anyway thanks for any help or advice

Download HWMonitor and check the voltage ratings. I've not heard much about that specific brand and PSU's that powerful can fluctuate in voltage easily. Research the 'normal' range on each specific voltage and seek a replacement PSU if something is abnormally wrong.

You could also check some other things, try running a stability test such as Prime95 or Orthos on the CPU and RAM. I'd suggest you run a couple more tests to check the stability of your system.

Good Luck. :)

my old X2 rig gets 5.4, this should easily get 5.9 and 15k in 3DMark, maybe a buggy install? tried any other benchmarks like the CustomPC benchmark?

Thanks for advice guys, not sure how to reply to individuals so i will reply to each here.

I put 2 gpuz's because there is one for each card, the settings between the two seem different?

I am running vista ultimate

all drivers bios and firmware are the latest available.

the psu was replaced for this more powerful one after someone suggested i didnt have enough power for both gfx cards, i will check out the stability tests you mention.

I used to get a 5.9 on windows exp before, then i fried a card using ntune or i think that was what done it, then after replacing the card the ram memory operations per second dropped to 5.0.

both cards now seem different in gpuz, one says nvidia and the other msi, both cards are msi? mhz also is different now

games all run ok but seem slow on max, especially crysis. I would think this setup could run any game on max, right??

I will check the benchmark you mention and see how this rates it.

Thanks a lot for all the advice

yes and no, on a lower res this rig will tear through Crysis, on a high res with AA and AF it will bring it down to its knees :D

Got a slight improvement, now 5.8 win exp lowest on mem ops, all others 5.9.

increased fsb to 1450 linked

ram is at around 740 or something

set mem timing to 4,4,4,12, 1t at 2.5v

cpu now running at 2.9 and stable, games seem to run much smoother now.

does that sound safe? can i push it more?

Looking through your original CPUz text, your memory is at 333.4 (= 666MHz), accroding to the specs you should be able to clock that ram at 800MHz+. Unlink the RAM from the FSB and manually set it higher (to 800) your memory is currently linked at a 1:2 ratio to your FSB, which means that you will not get the performance you desire out of it. Your RAM voltage seems high, but refer to the RAM's specs

Thanks mate, I will play around again tonight and hopefully get the ram working to full potential.

cheers
