I know for a fact that I am not alone when I say that I can't stand people who go out and spend a small fortune on a flashy PC from Currys and then boast about how superior it is to your £700 self-built pride and joy. They drive me crazy. It's like the opening scene in 'Fast And Furious: Tokyo Drift' where the guy with the Viper that his Daddy bought him starts reeling off the specs that he read on the display card in the dealership to the poor sod in his painstakingly custom-built muscle car. The only difference is that us low-budget enthusiasts don't get the opportunity to kick the American Jock off his high horse in a straight race.
Although I will never (hopefully) buy a pre-built machine, I have no problem with most of those who do. If you don't have the time or know-how to build your own then that's fair enough. What really gets me are the people who simply can't be bothered to read up and find out what the hell they're doing so they just bottle it and spend way too much on a poorly balanced and completely soulless PC. If nothing else, my concern is for their own good. If you get your gaming rig from Argos then you're probably going to end up with a dangerous power supply, cheap-as-chips memory and generally shoddy components all round.
What frustrates just as much are the sales people. Have you ever read the websites? A "Quad core Intel CPU" could be a Core2Quad or it could be a 3770K, who's to know? "High-performance memory". What the hell is that? Are we talking 1066MHz OEM modules here or am I getting 2400MHz Dominator Platinums? And the worst of all, "Gaming motherboard", is so ambiguous it's almost not even worth mentioning in the specs. All that really tells you is that there will be some form of motherboard. Probably. Or at least a small piece of fiber-glass with a chipset stapled to it and "GAMING" written on in crayon.
You might say that I shouldn't care about these people and the fact is that I'd love to but I'd rather just shout about them on the internet.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read that. If you did read it. Which you probably didn't because it's long and boring. Never mind.
