Peripherals

I'll reply to this thread properly tomorrow but dire... Your attitude stinks. Either buck up or ship out I don't want your kind here.

As I've said before when there us enough new peripherals content we will open a forum. A forum with no threads is bad for stats that's why it hasn't happened. Not enough of you are posting about it to warrant it.

You guys need to remember this is my site, I have my reasons for everything. Being like dire will just make me NOT want to do it more.

Manners cost nothing.

As for it being a job I don't read every thread and none of the other mods or admins get paid at all.

Is it possible to trial it for a month without affecting stats too much? (if it was to lay dormant).

I'll see what you say tomorrow anyways.

I'd like to say before I start this, that it doesn't particularly bother me whether we have the peripheral section or not. But considering these threads pop up every month or so, and then nothing happens, if you lot want something, as Tom's saying you need to prove it would be used.

Why don't one of you strong believers in having the section start up a thread where you can have a tally count of just how much it would actually get used.

Every time someone posts a new thread that could actually be put into a peripherals section if we had one, you post in the tally thread with a link, and the OP of the thread adds one to the tally with proof.

Then you lot can actually say: 'look, we've done this, and we can prove that a peripherals section actually will be used'. From what I've seen, pretty much every time these have popped up, Tom's given you the answer, telling people they need to show interest, then nobody can be bothered to do anything. All it is, is somebody who hasn't seen previous threads, the same as this, making the new thread, then the same old people chiming in...

Do something to actually prove it would be used, like Tom has asked about 5 times already this year, and then you actually have a leg to stand on. People wanting a thread, and people using the thread are different things, so prove it actually get used.

I think if you lot really felt strongly about the section, you'd have done something like this already.

Well, I understand your points and I fully agree

But have you considered that maybe some people don't post about them because they can't find a proper section for it and they're like 'Oh, nevermind then...'?

I have to agree with this and searching for info in a general section is something I really try to avoid as most threads are often not relevant so it's easier to go somewhere else.

As Ive already said till we have enough content its just not going to happen. Please remember Im doing this for a reason and understand the workings of these things.

If someone wants to start a thread with all of the NEW periph content that would be very helpful :)

I must admit it does seem a little silly that there isn't a section on peripherals. It would seem that unless someone in the admin team or reviews team is a professional gamer or at the very least a incredibly experienced gamer, there isn't the expertise to perhaps make proper reviews or comments on the topic. If that's the case then that's possibly why there is no section of the forums covering these issues. Also peripherals doesn't just cover keyboards and mice, peripherals are speakers, headsets, microphones, cameras, gaming surfaces and printers to name a few. Peripherals are technically a whole new field and it may be possible that apart from having the expertise they may also not have the equipment wether that's software or hardware to give accurate reviews to start the initial threads.

i could be entirely wrong of course and it could just be a simple case of demand for the threads lol

If you guys are worried about lack of content then why not merge the sound and speakers section with a peripherals section. Half the stuff discussed in the sound section is technically peripherals anyway ie speakers and headphones so why not just add mice and keyboards to it too. Would make sense. You guys get a populated section and we get a section to discuss things that might be on our mind.

Thats a good idea :)

Just so I haven't offended anyone when I spoke about expertise and equipment i'll clarify what i mean. when we talk about peripherals loosely we have to understand that peripherals such mice have to be track tested in order to record accurate dpi scores. on modern mice they use light to time the speeds. for web cameras tests such as the foucault and ronchi tests along with interferometry have to be applied to accurately review web cam devices. for audio devices it's things like a phaser checker that's needed. These are all things that are probably not possible due to the expense of the equipment or knowledge on how to use such equipment. all these factors make it difficult to review making it hard for people to give an honest evaluation so basically tend to go to specialist sites to get the reviews on the different peripherals which is why the demand for peripherals as a topic may be so low on here.

hope this clears some things up. lol
