PCIe SATA card for Asus Strix B350??

system:

asus strix b350f
windows 10 64 bit

i try to get a pcie sata card in this system to run.
need a sata port for a blu-ray burner.

should be simple ... but it is not.

i bought two sata pcie cards, one from syba one from i-tec.

I-tec PCE2SATA PCI Express Controller SATA III Card for 2 Channels, 2x eSATA to 2x SATA
Syba PCI Express card (2 SATA ports with 6 Gbps, PCI Express 2.0, PCIe x1)

in the i-tec info they write explicitly that it is suitable for optical drives.

both cards show the same behavior.
no matter whether in pciex16_3 or pciex1_3 slot on the mainboard.

when plugged in the system i get a bluescreen at boot time or the connected device is not recognized.

as drivers i have the tested the native drivers windows 10 installs and current WHQL drivers from asmedia.

with the native windows drivers the drive is simply not properly recognized.
windows tries to read the disk.... forever..

when i install the WHQL asmedia drivers (cards have an asmedia 106x chip) i have a bluescreen the next time i start windows.

windows then removes the driver at the subsequent boot procedure (windows repair is executed automatically).

if the blu-ray drive still appears in the device manager (a 50% chance) it is recognized by windows as GPT or MBR device. WTF..... ??

because i can not initialize it as such ... of course I have no drive letter.

any helpful ideas?

my research has revealed that I am not alone with this problem.
sata cards often cause considerable problems.

but there are many shoppers who write that the cards work fine.

the cards have no raid .. i only want to operate a blu-ray burner on them.
but even that is probably too much asked.

is here maybe someone who uses an asus strix b350 and a pcie sata card?
someone who can give me an advice for a card i should buy??

Have you tried looking at the disk management options in windows?

Here you can force a drive letter, set devices as GPT or MBR (i think?)
So maybe use windows native drivers, run disk management, force drive letter, and perhaps you have the chance to make further config changes.

yes i did.

it was in the disk managment that i saw windows thinks it is a GPT or MBR drive.

it is listed as "uninitilized disk" (well that´s my translation into english don´t know exactly how it is called in an english windows :) ).

when i try to initilize it i am only given the choice GPT or MBR.
windows thinks it is a harddrive, not an optical drive.

i did a lot of review reading the last days.
and it seems it is a lottery if these sata cards work or not.

with each card there is a great percentage of people who have nothing but trouble (bluescreens, drives suddenly vanish from windows etc).

you should think it´s simple plug and play and maybe install a driver, but in many cases it is not. especially the asmedia controllers seem to make trouble. but marvel is only a little better.

there is a card with a marvel controller that gets better reviews then most.
but when i checked the company website the say in the in the FAQ "does not work with all optical drives".

why produce and sell a SATA card that has known problems to work with SATA devices?

since i started using PC´s (after my amiga and C64 times) i am threated as betatester..... and in 26 years nothing changed.

Not sure why this is in the Asus section when this is the sata card at fault not windows or the motherboard?

Have moved thread

maybe because i cannot see in the future? maybe. :D

i first thought it may be a mainboard issue.

i edited my first post a fair bit and added information.
it was not clear from the start that the cards are at fault.

and mainboards play a role too.
one of the cards i have tested work better in a different mainboard.
still no optical drive support but at least no bluescreens.
