hey guy's i'm not exactly a new user, but i am having pc issues and i did'nt know where else to post a thread so i figure here is as good as any,

I received a PC of my friend earlier and didn't have a hard drive, so i used an old one i had laying around and proceeded to turn it on ... only nothing happened, what should i check first (other than the wall socket/power cable)

p.s
i have tried the switch both ways ,and used a lead known to work ...

Just going by a guess here, if you can open up the side of the case and take a looks at the PSU, and see if the fan is turning, it just might be that the PSU has died...

Also check the Obvious First the power switch connecter on the motherboard and all cables are in firmly 24 pin connector and 4/8 pin Etc...

yeah if your not even getting to the POST BIOS screen... I would guess its a PSU issue.

let me know if you work it out please... good luck.

Unplug every power lead from PSU to components and bridge the pins in the 24pin connector to see if the PSU powers up.

If it doesn't, your PSU is dead.

If it does, report back and we can go through more diagnostics.

Just out of curiosity, whats the spec of the machine you got? what PSU did you order?

We are all nosey and curious on here about each others rigs :p

Nothing special at all sadly :/ aha ;
Gigabyte GA-8i915PM mother board
I have a 'ViBox' 500w psu on the way (i hope it will do)
Intel Pentium4 (pritty sure, will tell all once its booted)
1gb of ddr2 ram (two sticks) - got 4x1gb sticks coming
some sort of Nvidia graphics card (again info next week)
160gb SSD (i think) out of an old laptop
and all this is in some packard bell case, which to be fair
looks to have very good air flow and is easy to work with...
so far lol

Any suggestions are always welcomed

I do have a few suggestions, but they not nice as they involve a box of matches and some petrol :p

Seriously though, I been where you are not so long ago, and it not nice, seeing all these shiny new rigs on places like here, the games that come out you want to play but you stand as much as a chance as a snow ball in hell of doing so.

I hope that PSU didn't cost you anything or very little as to me it sounds like a generic make that been rebadged by some obscure unknown company.

I would seriously save up as much as you can (I know that sometimes that isn't a reality as every penny is needed) and even if you get an i3 system which will be cheap, it will still be a major upgrade to what you have now.

Lmao loving the honesty :P and i have just entered the latest competition
you never know i may just win it ;) aha besides what i have my wish list is huge aha
