PC Boot

Reloaded2

Hi Guys,

I have goggled this and nothing useful comes up so I thought I'll come here. I have an OCZ Agility 3 SSD and it takes about 12 seconds to load up Windows 8, however as soon as I plug my in my Western Digital 500GB internal hard drive my computer takes 45 seconds+ to load up Windows 8 or even some times not load at all. Also the BIOS takes 3 times as longer to load as well when the hard drive is plugged in. I'm not sure why the hard drive is causing the computer to load so slowly and it really frustrates me; could it be OS is trying to look at the files on the HDD, and that's the reason why takes longer when the internal hard drive is plugged in. If it is how do I disable that or fix the problem if it isn't?
When I plug my hard drive in it doesn't detect the SSD?

Your answers would be really appreciated!:)

chances are that your hdd has windows on and the BIOS boot order is set to your hdd before your ssd...

go into your BIOS and make sure you put the ssd as 1st and take your hdd off the priority list.

I checked that and my BIOS has the SSD in first priority and nothing else. Sometime the BIOS doesn't even detect the hard drive but Windows does?

What is your disk controller set at? AHCI, IDE, or Raid?

EDIT: Would also help if we knew which motherboard you were using.

What if you unplug the SSD and try to boot from the HDD? If that works, you'll have to delete Windows from your HDD (possibly format it completely to get rid of any bootloaders and things like that).

How do I find out what the disk controller is set at? Not in the BIOS iv'e looked everywhere.

^^ that was my thought. It might be best to format it.. something on the HD is confusing the Bios

Only problem with that i have over 300GB of things to back up and i have no where to put it. Are you sure its that?

Western Digital 500gb Model Number: WD5000AADS

Have you ever had a previous Windows install on this drive? Maybe back when you were using a different motherboard or if the drive comes out of a different computer?

I did once make a partition and install windows on it for a day to fix my SSD but I completely wiped it and unpartitioned it after.

AHCI should be in the bios under Intergrated Peripherals.

Try this first.

Could be that the bootloader is still on the drive, taking over the bootloader that's on your SSD. Boot into Windows with both drives plugged in and run EasyBCD (You don't even need to like their fb or fill out your name or email, just click download).

See which bootloaders are installed, if there are two, you'll have to delete the one from your HDD or delete both and install a new one. Never reboot without a bootloader installed.

This is what it says:

There is one entry in the Windows bootloader.

Default: Windows 8
Timeout: 30 seconds
Boot Drive: C:\

Entry #1
Name: Windows 8
BCD ID: {current}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

That seems about right. I take it the SSD is C:\?

Does your motherboard have the B3 revision? I remember something about dodgy Sata ports that would degrade over time on the P67/Z68 boards. Can you try a different Sata port?

^^ Do this. IDE is slow as hell over multiple drives on the SATA bridge.

I tried this and i booted back up and it said boot manger missing and windows wont load up it just says your pc ran into some problems and stays in a boot loop so i had to open my computer and unplug my hard drive to the computer never got confused and change it back to IDE mode to get Windows loaded back on again.

Are you sure the SSD is still at the top of the boot list? Generally, drives always need to be set to AHCI.

Yea c:\ is the SSD and its a B3 Revision, ill try a different SATA Port.

No the WD is on the top SATA I think, but the SSD is on top priority. Is the Hard drive on top SATA causing the problem?
