P8Z68-V/GEN3 nightmare

After doing a bios update I find it is a lot harder to overclock not only that but my pc boots twice now instead of only once. Like it starts then turns off then starts agian and goes through the bios and everything normally....

Do you guys have any idea how to fix this, this is really annoying. I also find it rather annoying the motherboard keeps massively overvolting the CPU. It was at 1.6 volts when I booted up. Had to use AIsuite to get it down to 1.35 for my 5Ghz OC. Any tips or helpfull ideas to releave these frustrations?

I really don't want to be spending a bunch of money on a new motherboard....

If this continues though I'll get a new one when ivy bridge drops this one I have however does already have PCIe 3.0 and is basically ivy bridge ready...

My AMD motherboard (ASRock 870 Extreme3 R2.0) does also do the double boot sequence, might have something to do with EUFI BIOS.

hmm might be, well I managed to get it fixed now, I checked all the conections and replugged them it seems fine now, still instead of getting a reboot it shows the splash screen then black then bios splash screen again, I´m thinking it might indeedn be that EUFI bios...

ASUS have had a problem with the double boot for quite a while now, nothing to do with the new bios(I am still running the 505 i think that shipped with my board) and every day or so it will do the double boot(am used to it now)

Have you checked or set your memory timings and voltage manually? This sometimees causes the system to restart. You can always revert to the previous bios if you're having problems. I generally never update the bios unless my system is unstable.

Mine does the same (P8Z68-V Pro Gen 3)

I managed to decrease instances of how often it happened by buying a powered USB hub. Asus don't have a fix for this, and there are many, many other posts similar to yours of lads complaining of the same problem. Don't bother contacting Asus, they just blame your memory. Nobody knows a fix for the issue at present mate, sorry.

I've seen posts of it happening on Gigabyte boards too. Beginning to wonder if it's an inherent fault with the chipset / socket, because this never, ever happened on my old P5Q Deluxe which was solid as a rock.

You may benefit from a new board when Ivy comes out but who's to say it wont have a new issue like the double boot problem we all have now.

It's worth checking memory timings, make sure none of them are too tight, and some people say disabling PLL overvolting can fix it, but it didn't work for me.

I highly doubt that it can have anything to do with RAM timings, as i went from a ASUS RoG Crosshair III which did not dual boot, to a ASRock 870 Extreme3 R2.0, moved everything into it, stock speeds and it dual booted, the only difference is the chipset and EUFI.

Most reasonable reason, sad how they just spit stuff like that out nowadays

My asus sabertooth did that too. Did you by chance change the boot image?

Nope I did not, silly mobo it is=.=

I did all I can try to fix it, I managed to make it not reboot completely now it just shows me the bios splash screen twice. My ram timings are on auto they shouldnt be an issue. Ah well when ivy bridge drops i'll just get a new really high end mobo lol. (after amonth of course wouldn't want to risk buying a crapy board gota have some reviews first)

Hi,

Do you think the latest BIOS update is just a bit duff? I'll only update a BIOS if it addresses specific issues I've encountered.

For the record I have the Original P8Z68-V Pro board, I've never had cause to update the BIOS from what it shipped with, and it's been behaving great for quite some time now - no sign of the issues you're reporting. It does sound like a board issue doesn't it? I'd hope a further BIOS update would provide a fix.

Scoob.

I wouldn't worry about the off and on boot up business. As people have said it's been a problem with the boards for years, I have a Maximus Formula that does the same thing.

To sort the voltages you could set them manually in the bios? I've never trusted the "auto" settings.

I have a P8P67 Pro every 3rd or 4th time I boot I get a double boot its not a problem really also +1 what Toxicity said on the voltages Id never leave them Auto it was jumping to 1.45 (Im on Air) for a 4.5GHz overclock I set it to manual @ 1.39 and its 24/7 stable
