[Overheat3d.net] i7-4790k + Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Hello there.

I believe I have some overheating issues, and I don't know where's the problem.

Intel stock cooler:
IDLE: 38°C
LOAD: 100°C ( I aborted after 1-2 minutes )

Cooler Master 212 EVO:
IDLE: 32°C
LOAD: 82°C

I was running latest Intel Burn Test V2 on standard mode

I think the temperatures are too high for a cooler like this, correct me if I'm wrong.

I have also tried re-applying the thermal compound 3 times ( Akasa 455 ), the temperatures have always been the same.

Have you set the voltage manually? That will make a difference. Also how do you put the thermal paste on?

I think that the temps are reasonable if you consider the low cost of that cooler and the fact that the summer does have quite an impact on temps.

My i5 3570k idles around 44 degrees with its 4.2 ghz overclock on that cooler, it does have an corsair sp120 quiet fan on there, but compared to the stock fan that comes with it, it doesnt make a huge difference apart from looks.

And I'm also using stock voltages ( AsRock Z97 Extreme4 ), which seem to vary from 1.156 -1.2517 V

I applied a "dot" in the center of the processor for a stock compound, and the "X" type for the 212 Evo

That thing is running at 4.4GHz, it does seem reasonable.

The voltages seem to vary from 1.156 - 1.2517

The motherboard is AsRock Z97 Extreme4, I didn't set any voltages myself.

The room temperature was 27°C on both occasions

Your problem is the auto volts. We have done guides on how to manually set them.....

Otherwise temps for 1.2v+ are correct

In a sense yes, the main reason there is a problem is using these auto OC settings is they ramp up the volts so that the OC works for chips that may not be good, or well picked.

So your CPU is probs getting more volts than it needs and ya just making heat for no reason.

use the guides to get ya OC better, might even get a better OC for the same or less volts.

At stock it doesnt need 1.2 mate

Its either that or buy a better cooler. Pretty simple

OK at stock 1.156 -1.2517 V, the temps were 78°C
At 1.100 V, max temp was 72°C, now testing @ 1.095 V, since 1.085 froze

Ok I'm keeping the 1.1 V, because 1.095 V froze after passed 30 minutes OCCT test, the temperatures were the same as at 1.1 V - 72°C max.

The cores weren't equally hot - Core#1 was 72°C and the core#3 was 66°C, is this weird ?

Room temp was 26°C and IDLE temp was 35°C


So... should I be satisfied?

I too had "issues" with the 4790k and OCCT. My cores were reading something similar, so I'm calling it "normal".

Yes matey - and youve had your first taster of testing. Everyone needs to know their bios..... Its the holy grail.
