Ordered wrong CPU >.<

Hi guys, I received my CPU the other day, and put away after checking that the heatsink was actually in there as it was VERY light. I have yet to use the CPU as I do not have all my components. I was meant to order the 2500k, but for some reason now it says 2500. Should I send back for a replacement and pay the extra £10 for the 2500k. What would be the difference in the overclock compared to each other? Will use D14 on P67 Sabertooth.

The basket said 2500k, I swear it did >.<

Looking for 4GHz.

Thank you

A 2500 non K cpu can not be overclocked it has a locked multiplier.

Send it back and buy a 2500K instead.

I heard you can get it to 4GHz on a couple of forums. Hopefully they allow me to send it back. I opened the box to see that everything was in there. CPU hasn't even been taken out of plastic cover.

Hi,

I've heard of 2500's (non-K) being overclocked but it's not guaranteed. Send it back, get a 2500k and overclock properly - you'll be very glad you did as it's soo very easy. I hit 4.5ghz (from stock 3.3) by only changing TWO settings in my BIOS...

Scoob.

The i5 2500 is limited to 38x and the i5 2500K is limited to 57x, so the max would be 3.8Ghz on a i5 2500. It would be better to send it back and get the 'k' version, they might hit you with a restocking fee but if you're going to overclock then the unlocked multiplier would be better with higher core speeds and as it would make overclocking the cpu easier as well.

I have to pay postage, how much would the restocking fee be?

Well good thing you noticed now. I didn't notice mine wasn't a 2600k until after I had it in rig for a bit.

True >.<. Not looking forward being hit with a £20 charge to send it back. Only to having to order another one.

No way of contacting them or anything. It's just print this, if we decline it, you will be charged. Oh, helpful.

Not sure mate, if they're understanding they might not change you of course this depends on the seller. Try to tell them that you received the wrong cpu and never used it (your bill should write what you ordered).

Also make sure they understand you want the K version, they might think you're sending it back 'due to it being faulty', then send it back and slap you with a fine saying the cpu works.

I have done what you said, I mentioned I want the K version and that it is UNUSED. Apologised also. Just need to print it and send tomorrow. It was from Intel (if that's the seller at the top). Hope to get this soon. Soo close to having it up and running

Do you have any idea how long this 'could' take to resolve?

Thank you

No idea mate, sorry. I would assume it would take about the same amount of time as a normal delivery x2 + the 1-3 days of sorting out the paperwork (at the best).

So that would be - from your house to supplier (est delivery time it took to come to your house), paperwork (1-3 days at best), return of new cpu (delivery time). 1 - 2 Weeks? (Weekends are a B!"£$% for deliveries and work)

Hopefully works out for you mate, also thank you for the delicous reps you've been handing out

Time for me to also do my bit.

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk.

I'm sorry to hear that the item you received is not as expected.

Please return the "Intel Sandybridge i5-2500 Core i5 Quad-Core Processor (3.30GHz, 6MB Cache, Socket 1155)" to us and we’ll refund you as soon as possible.

As to your enquiry regarding the cost of returning the item, I have created a return label so that it would be free of charge.

Now, if they take it and send me a refund. That's what I call service!

I have just sent the CPU back free of charge via Yodel, I've got a receipt from them also. Now waiting on a refund when they receive it back, can't wait to order the 2500k now... I will tripple dipple mikkle nipple check it x3 this time.
