Orca 2

Amazingly I uploaded my first Orca video August 2013, I think shes been in active service now for 3 years though. Shes never let me down and bar changing the PSU for a quieter one and removing the soundcard when I started using the Creative DAC shes running the original spec.

Normally when I start a project like this Ive planned almost everything before it even hits the forums, this time it looks like it maybe more of an evolution over time.

In the video I discuss my thoughts for inverting the already inverted Corsair 600C which will include cutting and shutting some standard parts to basically end up with what I think Corsair should have made in the first place (despite the glaring similarities to the H440 and the whole Thermaltacky copy cat debate)

SO the big question is to 600C or not to 600C, Ill be totally honest Im not sure I can fab all that plastic and be able to achieve and OEM like finish. It would end up needing a fair bit of fibre glass and filler which on a car is fine due to the size but with the small sizes of a PC case Im not sure id be able to get it looking good.

What do you guys think?

Hi Tom

I would personally love to see you use the Red/White H440 and mod the case. I am redoing my H440 and modding the crud out of it as shown in this thread. H440 Redux I loved when you made the custom H440 out of 2 cases. There is a huge potential in the H440, and you can make 2x360 rads fit.

I just dont think there is room for everything dude :/

If if recall right Orca was something special with a meaning. If I'm wrong tell me, but it had to do with your mom? I would say, do something special as well again and nothing standard. Take your time on it and let the result be something beautiful you love in the end. Because lets face it, you have to look at it everyday on your desk and it is still a reminder somehow. So let it be as special as you just can think of. Keep it up I really like your channel .

Tom what about this then?

https://www.nzxt.com/products/h630-white, You could mod the front drive bays with a single plate to cover up the lines, Cut the sidepanel to fit a big stonking window yourself and make it look like really pretty while still having the classy 440 looks on the outside.

Id have to replace the whole metal front panel to cover up the bays on that :/

Im not planning on rushing this dude, just dont know which way to swing with the case. May have to have an interim rig the way this is looking.

Have you looked into techniques used by hobby modelers? I have done a little bit of work with some gunpla (snap together gundam models), and there are fillers and sanding blocks and what not that can leave you with a like new plastic finish if you're willing to buff it enough. I've never really done PC modding, just some food for thought.

Tom I would love of you taking a look at a bigger Parvum case, these do not get enough coverage from you youtubers imo. And it is perfect for a red/white or white/black themed case

Not really my style for my long term rig :/

Re: the 909 Im not sure its got the cooling soace for what I have in my head.

Re: the car models Ive tried some of that stuff before and it can be a bit weak to 'grab' the harder case plastic.

A decent thickness 360 and tube res & a slim 240 not enough Tom?

Or are you planning on using an E-ATX X99 motherboard (even although they do fit in a H440 (just)).

Would love to see you do your thing in an H440 Tom (black, red & white). Although I'd go with black internals, white panels with the red accents.

Not a fan of the Corsair case you intend to use, but each to their own. Either way, I'll still be following your progress on Orca 2. :beerchug:

I have not followed for as long as a lot of others so I don't know about the "early days in the shed" as such however, getting a creative spark doesn't happen very often and right now you are starring at one full in the face! Not doing the project I think would be a big mistake since it has gotten those said juices flowing.

All hail for the mad ass project!

Hi Tom,

Since it has been quite long from the original build, you should definitely look into building a new PC. Why not try something like the Phanteks Evolv ATX (with or without tempered glass) as it seems like an amazing case from looks and functionality.

Phanteks are still a bit iffy with me after the P400 review

Corsair 750d or 900d?

Both too dated now IMHO

Rads would need to match to some degree dude. There is OCD in OC3D you know....

Hey Tom,

I'm Duality92 on OCN, I'm staff that takes care of the whole cases section which includes sponsored builds, I see a hefty amount of builds and case mods go by. I've seen your builds on Facebook and such and they're great!

I'd like to speak with you, maybe more personally than on a forum thread about what you want and my suggestions :)

Hit me up with a PM if this interests your ;)

Thats some kind words dude thank you. I know my place though, my builds are basic. At very least the small things I do can add up to a bigger overall picture, the whole idea is though to inspire the home modder to have a go themselves.

Sadly as a new member you dont have access to PM's yet. Id love to hear your ideas though.

I posted on your Facebook page or worst case, you can contact me on overclock.net?

Tom its a huge undertaking as bit here and bit there project maybe find a case that is aesetically what you need without the need for cutting filling painting etc would be an option I aint seen close up pics of the case hinges but the look as though they are screwed/bolted in the case if so then they can be made to fit i am sure.

As a thought though this Lianli looks clean and tidy https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lian-li-pc-a76wx-big-tower-black-black-window-ca-660-ll.html
