Like how many times?

And am I perhaps seating it wrong?

Is there a video or something that I can watch to see if I am doing it right?

Have you overclocked your CPU?

Try setting the RAM settings manually in the BIOS including the timings and the voltages.

if it's happening at stock speeds, check the pins in the cpu socket very carefully to make sure they are all aligned properly

Hey Guys,

I booted up my PC today and it is showing 4gigs?

I'm really confused

Hi. If you google "x58 cold boot issue" you might find more than a few similar instances. There are probably a few different problems and a few different solutions under this heading, but your memory problem sounds familiar. I was buying a PC off Scan in September when they hit this problem on Asus boards and Corsair ram. After a few hours off (i.e. cold), boards would come up showing less than full ram. An immediate reset would boot with all ram. A workaround, if annoying.

As for permanent fixes, sometimes a different batch of Ram fixed the problem. They got Asus to provide a workaround Bios to solve this for the others. You can see the final page of the support thread here which identifies the problem as a batch problem (i.e. interoperability of ram batch with motherboard batch) and the final resolutions.

If you are able to borrow someone else's ram sticks you could see if the switch works for you.

There may be nothing wrong with your kit in isolation (and it will work fine elsewhere), it may just be slightly out of tolerance when you put it all together.

It's something to try. Good luck.

I don't have the BIOS sorry. I cancelled my order. In any case the specific motherboard that was causing the problem at the time was the Asus P6X58D-E, not the rampage. But if you do a google, it isn't just Asus m/b or Corsair ram that causes the problem. It is wider than that.

In the case I found myself embroiled in (build stuck in lab awaiting fix) I thought it was a batch interoperability problem, long before anyone admitted it and I didn't think a bespoke BIOS fix was the way to go. It might get you a fix in the short term, but if you flash a newer BIOS at a later date, these bespoke fixes likely won't be included and you'll be back to stage one again.

(Scan seemed to only use Corsair ram and this did seem to limit their options with this particular case. I'd have been just as happy with another brand.)

If at all possible I'd try new ram sticks. Your retailer might be quite happy to swap them if you don't have some others to hand you could try.
