ongoing project going online

Sound exciting and i cant wait to see how it work out. This one will come down to attention to detail and build quality. Cant wait. :D

Me Too!!!!
Just drank a beer with the metalguy, and he's prob as excited as me :D
It will take a while before production starts, but when we start, we don't stop!

We've discussed a lot of stuff and i will have yet more to do, which is fine cause i really enjoy this stuff....feels good the design again :P

Why not try acrylic pipe? that's the most clean water tubing if bend perfectly imo.

I think i will go acrylic in the showpieces, but since i and metalguy disscussed a bit, some changes may occur ragarding what will be showed :D, will update soon with some new pics of that

The way a heatsink works is that the heat of the component spreads out through the heatsink (more surface area). Then, because of air flowing over the heatsink, the heat gets exchanged, i.e the air blowing on the heatsink is 'cool' (delta temperature) and the air coming off is warmer.
It's actually a common misconception that the air coming from a fan is cooler, but this is not the case.

Because you have no proper airflow over your motherboard, the RAM and VRMs and everything else is going to miss out, considering the only airflow there is goes from the bottom to the top, but the motherboard is mounted horizontally.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to add a fan or two to the middle compartment, like near the top of the motherboard or right above the I/O area (although the latter would require small fans and they suck).

thanks for clarifying man! it sounds very reasonable and correct what your saying and we will make a spot for 1 direct 120mm fan (just need to design it in. the idea is there and already incorporated :P)

thanks for the read, and all the reply's!

some pics of before it got together with the metalguy...:D

soon there will be updates, yes i say!

soon there will be updates, yes i say!

Uhhhh, it took way too long, but sometimes things happen in real life (went on vacation :), got sick :(, etc. )

But i am here again, to report and to gain even more knowledge :D
---
I'd like to start saying that i am stresstesting & overclocking now, my cpu is on water now, so this post will probably be made in a few hours, with a lot of reboots on this side :D.....

I have a lot to report, and i hope i keep it managable and readible....
---
After a lot of waiting on my order, and about 6 emails (every time getting more annoying), i finally got talking to somebody in that company, that did understand me (they sent away stuf out of my order (to another order), so that my order got delayed for another 4 weeks......it was already delayed for 2 weeks at that time) so i cancelled the whole order, placed a new one, with different parts which were in stock, and received them after 2 days.....

I was testing reliabilty and shipping time with my order (never had ordered there, and still a bit itchy when i order in a foreign country) and they screwed up bigtime in the first place, but when i got to speak with the "proper" person, i got fixed right away.......too bad the first few emails where opened by people who did not understand the problem they created, best thing about this, i know who can help me in the future now and the delivery time is 2 days :D

But i got the stuff and remebered i needed to make more pictures, even for the time being (i will prob do some upgrades to the old rig, before the new build really starts :D

so....picture time.....

And a bit of fun when you can't build something because your missing some more parts :D

Okay, will edit this later (prob a few more times) but i am rebooting now to go over 4 Ghz (and be stable), which isn't working so far, hahahaha :D

Okay, continuïng in this post because this post wil have a lot of "build" int it :D

First off, i am really terrible with ordering complete orders, so i frequently stumble on the fact i miss some parts...

In the big order (with the cpu block etc) i made one mistake, i thought i ordered pairs of fittings, but they were singles (so i was 3 short to build something).

I knew i wanted to go acrylic and that i needed more fittings so that would be fixed in the next order.....which i got in the mean time :D

I also had an order at another company, for a NB cooler, and some other small stuff, which i also received

Today i ordered some small stuff for a fillport, and a very nice suitcase filled with acrilic bending tools :D

Probably will get those next monday, so then i can get really building :D

Now off to the build.....

I made myself a nice looking (i think) drain....the y piece is rotary, so i can even rotate it a bit down

Let's show a problem....haha....i am gonna fix it by placing a extender under 1 of the fittings......this is the NB cooler btw, and i expected the acrylic fitting to fit without the extender, sometimes i make judgement errors :D.....
IyMwcJK.jpg

Now off to the cpu block, i needed to replace the mounting system, standard is intel and i needed the amd, so let's begin

First i got myself a piece of foam to work on (to not scratch anything), i peeled up the protective "sticker" and placed the block and mounting system in the orientation the should come
XgUDjqk.jpg

just unscrew the screws, dont touch the plating on the block and work tidy!
KQ30XLq.jpg

When it was open i couldn't resist! so much shining bling.....awesome!
WR60cOQ.jpg

Overall picture, when i first placed the mounting plate it didn't click (as mentioned in the manual), i had it upside-down, turned it up and clicked right in! Don't lose/break the rubber gasket it needs to be replaced
9nNq1xS.jpg

The rubber gasket is a little prebend so if you line it up you can just carres it in with a fingertip, make sure it fits nice and snug!
6zKFB3B.jpg

Placed the coolblock back on the mounting plate, then tighten the screws in a crospattern......

Endresult!

Oh no, there was a little wite speck one the middle O of the O in "OUT" but when further investigating it was just left over sticker :D
made the picture because i first thought it looked ugly (misproduction or something) but when i understood it was the sticker i thought it would be handy for other people :D

Fisnished up with some nice fittings!
FaAEu8J.jpg

So what's next....of course getting the motherboard and cpu out and replacing the cpu cooler :D, fun, fun, fun, or is it?

got my motherboard out quick and of course made a picture :D
otGy34p.jpg

I don't know if it's the correct way, but it's my own selfthought way.....there is a little pin which locks your cpu in your motherboar socket, i unlock that pin so i can remove the cpu and the cpu-cooler attached to eachother, as the picture is taken you push it down and to the right (on this motherboard)
Vg4aR1D.jpg

But offcourse then you end up with this, which can be hard to separate (in my case almost impossible.....i had a fairly hot and overclocked setup the last 1,5-2 years, which i think "cooked" the two together)
2YrTBah.jpg

Off course i tried turning and twisting it off, bot no move whatsover.....so what did i do (after trying al kind of reasonable stuff for about half an hour), i got a little screwdriver and wedged it (gently) between the coolfins of the coolblock and the green pcb stuff.....
I saw the silicon about getting ripped of the pcb so i stopped, thinking i am f#cked...but then i saw the cpu was moved maybe half a mm, so there was progress!!!
I continued gently on the other side using the screwdriver as a lever and after doing that to all sides it popped off! Yeahh, or maybe not because it fell like a meter high and crashed on my hard floor.....shit been here and last time it didn't end well....
Let's look how many pins are bend, oops that's a lot and far too! i don't have any good pictures because the camera on the iphone just can't see it (i have problems with that too), but here was one picture with when i was almost finished....
2zcDn5n.jpg

I used the little iron wire to get under pins which were bent almost flat, then pulled up the wire a bit, and te pin would rise a bit, i used the smallest philipshead i could find, which ended up being about the same thickness as the spacing of the pins on the cpu is, so i had (lucky me) a tool to space the pins back (90% good)
I imagined if i could bend them straight enough, it will work because of the locking mechanism of the socket (it will staighten them back, but they all need to go in there own pinhole!) btw i did use a little magnifier, for example on the picture you can see 2-4 pins not proper, somewhere in the middle, i found the because it wouldn't fit in the socket, but i thought i had them al, someway the 2-4 pins there were bent too, after fixing that it's just hoping you fixed it right....:D

So happy it fit eventually (longest cpu change ever for me, for a total of 2 hours)
9sHUaRN.jpg

So continuïng with the waterblock, because there is only one more way to find out if i broke my cpu.......
preparation is always good, i need the washers and the springs, the jetplates i left untouched
SWJoia9.jpg

The stuff i needed for the mounting of the backplate..... 4 off the standoffs (thumbscrew-things) were for intel 2011, so i didn't needed those
8oBtguV.jpg

It's a shame i didn't make picture of the backplate, but it's just insulation with a silver metal backplate....but now it feels like i forgot something....sorry for that!

I placed the backplate and insulation, placed the washers on my motherboard, and screwed in the standoffs
4hdr6bw.jpg

Damn it does like nice when fitted! (off course i tightened the thumbscrews in a crosspattern)
CtLuy7v.jpg

x2Eg1aM.jpg

rXRoClz.jpg

Ohhh seems i did made one of the back(plate) too.......
lkrAvUY.jpg

I really wanted to test it and forgot to make some pictures, but here's a picture of the leaktesting (i know the tube is bend, from rad to cpu, but i couldn't get it to fit, monday i will fix this beacuse then i can go acryilic, also a reason why i didn't fill up the system, it's full enough for a week)
I had no leaks btw, only some fill spills (if that is even english :D)
nHt1pdr.jpg

For the people who think, damn he is crapping on in that old crap, where's the new design?
It will follow and the next post or so, but for better readability and reference (quoting) i decided to split this and that post (to keep the old build a bit separated from the new build) (that post will follow prob tomorrow, because tonight i am going to play some darts, and that too will gonna be a long one :D)

I did wanted to post, because i feel i have so much to post about the last month, but for now this will be enough for me :D

Thanks for reading and everything else!
