im not sure if i have posted this in the right place. if i have posted it in the wrong place i am sorry
well the desk i am using at the moment is around 5 years old and has had quite a bit cut out of it in order to fit my full size tower in it and then i had to make another add on to put my network printer and laser printer on (altho i have moved the laser printer to a new room now) and add some extra storage. as you can see it looks a bit of a mess but has worked for quite awhile like this so i guess its not all bad.
photo of how it is now (i need to get some curtians but have not had time as yet)
The idea for my new desk.
The colours theme came from the way my room is painted and also the way i done my keyboard. i will be making the desk with a timber frame work and then covering the outside with MDF and this is for a few reasons which are 1: - the timber frame will give the desk its strenght and mean i can make it in separate bits (modular design) 2: - MDF will be used to cover/box the frame in because MDF is flat and can be painted easy enough. the colour theme will be white fronts with a gloss black top or i may even get the carbon out and cover it instead of gloss black (all paints will be 2K automotive paint. applied with a spray gun and flatted black for what i hope will be a very nice gloss finish) if i go down the carbon fibre route it will be a 200g 2/2 twill carbon fibre fabic that is used with a water clear epoxy resin. the desk will be in L shape form with dimensions of 570mm deep (i was going to go with 600mm and use kitchen worktop as the work surface but thought that would look cheap and be cheating plus the area i have to put it in is 570mm deep so would look better flush) it will also be around the 700mm heigh. the longest lenght of work surface will be 1530mm long and the other will be 890mm long
the desgin at the moment looks like this

veiw two: -
veiw one detail list: - this is the longest side of the L shape desk at 1530mm long. parts from left to right are: - Seating area at 556mm wide, built in pc at 316mm wide and a 656mm wide cupboard. i wanted a 3 monitor setup on this desk but may have to settle for a dual due to the seating area beening tight to the wall
veiw one above desk: - im not 100% sure if i want this above the desk or if i want anything there (but i dont get much storage out of the desk) any ideas on things to do here would be welcome
veiw two detail list: - this is the shorter side of the L shape desk at 890mm long. Perts from left to right could be (im not 100% sure what to use this space for yet): - Seating area for a 2nd pc or writing place at 556mm wide and a second pc space (maybe not built into the desk altho i had thought about using this space for putting my server in but will have to see what happens) at 316mm
the built in pc compartment will have a plexi front and top so you can see whats inside and will also have no door handles or anything on the outside. i want it to look like its a sealed box and the main access point will be throw sliding the top surface of the case forward and going in throw the top side (the top surface will be on draw runners the same as whats used on kitchen draws and will have a pin located on the right side of the seating area hidden away to stop it moving around unit you want access) the front pannel will be removable but you will need to gain acess throw the top and remove two or four internal pins which will then allow the whole front piece to be taken off. i know its a lot of hassle but i wanted something different and also want a clean look with few handles and things on the front aswell as it looking like it was factory sealed in there. the pc inside will be water cooled and i may even make the top plexi the res for the coolant loop so you can look throw the water/coolant and see inside. I also want to hide the optical drive/drives out of sight along with any usb ports. i had thought about not using a optical drive and just using an external one when needed but im unsure on this as yet.
any input, ideas or things i should maybe try to include are welcome as i want to try and make sure i can upgrade everything when need.
altho i could do with some help on the lighting side as i can not make up my mind on what colour/colours to go for
