my trusty bash about comp has lost its GFX......

so i need some help from you guys on what i should replace it with.

the main useage for the comp will be.....file sharing, office work, watch DVD, some times gaming like AoE3, BF2 etc etc, DL'ing things, light photo editing, play music.....

spec:-

D805@4Ghz

2x2x512MB TwinX XMS2 DDR2

P5WD2 Premium

36gig Raptor

X-Fi

cooling:-

10/8 hose

DDC+alpha top

PA120.1

PA120.3

swiftech MCW30 NB block

swiftech apogee COU block

Mosfet block

oh, and, hope i can play games at 1680x1050 without having to switch everything off in order to play games......

the new GFX card doesn't have to be top of the range one, as long as it can do most of the things i listed im happy, because this isn't really a gaming rig, more of a 'comp for the whole family to use'

thanks in advance for any advice given!

cheers!

Don't get the 805

If your on a budget get a 3800+

no no, i already have that spec, its just i need a new GFX card to go with that.

if EVERYTHING had die in one go, it would've been better, UPGRADE TIME! LOL

but like everything eles in life.....things never go the way you want to......

ahwell......

anyway, 8800 cards will be a NONO in this setup, theres no point really, so its now down to 7900GTO......

anymore ideas?

Aha

So how'd u know it's the vid card? have you tested another one in there?

yup, a nice friend of mine came over with a 1900xtx for checking, and it is indeed my ageing 6800xt thats dead.......

well.........cant really say its dead-dead, its clinging on to its dear life......when ever i boot up, it'll keep trying to send a signal to my monitor but nothing ever shows up, like.....flash.....dead.......no signal........flash.......dead......no signal.....

how about a 320MB 8800GTS?

they're just under £200 and would be a lot faster than a 7 series card

x1900gt I can't stop recommending this card!!! So cheap but I can run all my games flat out at your resolution! £120 I'd say...I can play 2142 flawlessly - although it is an EA games production lol!

Considering DX10 will become mainstream soon (maybe!) you should consider investing in it though but chances are better cheaper dx10 cards will be out soon so heh yea!

Hey mate - depending on how much you want to spend/how much you actually game, I was thinking of selling my evga 7900 gto, so you could have it for £100+p&p? Take it or leave it, just thought I'd throw that in there!

If you want to drop the full £200 then go that little further and get the 8800 gts
