suup !?

i am yet to buy a decent graphics card, but i am confused between the GTS 250 and the 5770.

offcourse the ATI is a better option, but then i have a small issue.

the issue is that i have a cooler master real power pro 460W PSU, now would the ATI work with the PSU ? cause i think the 6-pin power is low on the PSU. i am total noob. please help.

oh and i have 2gb ram, asus p5n-mx motherboard and an intel quad CPU. :/

I think if ur looking for the card to be a longer term purchase, u would need to get the 5770.

If ur not looking long term, the 250 would do u ok.

As with the psu, 460w is ~kinda~ going to limit any grand options u may think of in the distant future. With a quad cpu already, ur just another 2g and a top end card away from having an outstanding pc that'll do anything for u. But ofc the psu will be this limiting factor.

well, i do need it for a long run. so the 5770....

but ill have to get a more powerful PSU...right ?

or would my CM RPP 460W be able to handle it ?

PS. my motherboard has onboard nvidia 7050. will it create and problems with an ATI vga ?

Personally I would. Even with a 5770, if u get a 600-650w+ quality psu, u stand in a good position moving forward.

U might want to buy the 5770 and try it with ur existing 460, remembering in the back of ur mind that if any problems crop up whilst playing a game, it could well be the psu. Normal desktop stuff should be ok.

(I've got a test bench setup atm with a P35 mobo, Q9450, 4g, 9800GT and 4 harddrives. Using a 400w old psu I'm getting dodgy results trying to use 5 harddrives)

U won't get any problems with the onboard versus an ATI card. U turn the onboard off in the bios if it doesn't detect u have an extra card in there.

gotcha mate.

ill keep it in mind.

i have a single hard drive and a dvd-rw.

anyhow, i think ill do with the GTS 250 for now. i might get a new rig later on.

cheers :)

defo go down the 5770 route mate, near performance of the 4870+dx11? much much better option

ohh and btw the 5770 has a power usage of around 100 watts maxed soo a high quality 400+ would do just finley.

I would definitely get the 5770 over the gts250. And about the PSU... my old 450w delta psu couldn't handle my Q8200 @ stock speeds with 3GB ram (2 sticks) a low end mobo, 1 hdd, 1 dvd drive and 1 sapphire radeon hd 4770, so I don't think 460w will do the trick.. would buy a new psu if I were you.

Get the HD 5770, your PSU will handle it, your setup is not that "crowded". You will not be running at the full 460W load, your PSU is a quality one (you can't put it in the "no-name" category, cooler master is a decent company). You don't need to spend money now on a new PSU, if you think of adding even more stuff to your system (like another video card, stuff that really consumes power, not a HDD or a stick of RAM that will only get you up just 15W or so...), just buy one then. Right now you're more then fine.

The 5770 gets only a few fps more than the GTS250 and is $60 more. The GTS250 can handle any game out there too.And if directx11 is like directx10 you wont need it for a while.

the gts 250 is actually a slower card then the 9800gtx+ in most cases.....

and the argument that the gts 250 is only slightly behind in performance? the 5770 normally gains around 10-15 fps more in every game ive seen except for crypoop, that extra 10-15 fps gain will allow headroom for higher resolutions and more AA and another $60 for the card is a no brainer in my mind as its defo a future proof fast card.

Maybe you won't need DX11 for a while but Dirt 2 already uses DX11 and when DX11 becomes the standard atleast you wont have to buy a new card...

not by much but it still is faster even up against a 1gb gts 250
