hello all,

my 8800gt is playing up, it shows in device manager with an exclamation mark stating the driver is "not configured properly ( Code 1 ) please reinstall the drivers.

when i do this AFTER uninstalling the previous ones and doing a clean up, it locates new hardware.. install drivers ok then i get this message

An error occured during the installation of this device

Access is denied

check power output on the psu, used a molex to pci-e adaptor to check its not the socket on the psu, checked all mobo drivers and bios up to date.

please help this is driving me crackers!!

the system worked perfectly well yesterday and not today.

Not in any way to have a quick solution for u, but what has usually happened there is that the driver installer thinks u have 1 type of card and u actually have another.

Misidentification of a card can either be that it`s not seated correctly or it`s underpowered.

As u`ve checked the power situation, I`d be tempted to remove to gfxcard, do the usual check for dust or whatever, and re-insert it.

When u power up it may magically work. But if it fails again, either the power isn`t suitable or there is an issue with where it`s sitting it it`s pcie slot (hard to explain - like u have some movement or something).

hi and thanks for the reply, ive been working on this all day to no avail.

followed the sticky thread regarding removing the drivers ( used drive cleaner and various versions of it )

Device manager actually identifies it as a nvidia 8800gt.

ive tried 174 version beta driver that was suggested by nvidias forums too but still no joy.

unfortunately i have no other pic-e board to try this in.

I may be able to get a more powerful psu.

System is gigabyte GA-965p-DS3, E6300, bfg 8800gt, samsung spinpoint 250gb, hiper type-r 580w

Whats puzzling me is its worked perfectly fine under all applications.

Ran Crysis, COD4 etc no problems then tody this error??

Any other suggestions would be gratefully recieved as im at the end of my theaher!! Soon a 8800gt is gonna go into orbit :)

You don't say what o/s you're using. The latest 174.93 beta drivers come in different versions for xp32, vista32 and vista64.

Plus, the 174.16 and 174.74 versions have reported problems with 6,7,8 series on the web. I think they're for the 9 series.

If the driver cleaner tool you used or your 'clean up' has removed your BFG 8800GT '.inf' file, this may be why the beta drivers can't identify the card properly?

I know clean driver installs are usually the recommended route but I'd try using the drivers on your original BFG disk and then updating them with the relevant 174.93 beta or just let the NVIDIA.com driver wizard identify the latest non beta release for your card, then update that with the beta.

hi thanks for your response,

my OS is XP 32bit home

ive used the bfg drivers after a clean wipe still shows same error.

driver cleaner was the one Kempez reccomended, when that didnt cure problem i used another put foreward on the nZone forums.

ive even used old drivers from when the card was first launched and gone through each and every archived driver.. and what a pain in the backside that is! ( deleting old drivers in safe mode before reinstalling any new btw )

ive stripped my machine down so theres no excessive power drain on the psu.

at a complete loss really.. and was trying my damdest to aviod any rma scenarios.

the puzzling thing is the card works at 1680x1050 my max rez supported by my monitor, just screen refresh is awfully slow when web browsing etc.

Everest doesnt show the card -- used to show temps etc

rthdribl will not execute at all

just off to shops for some vallium going slightly mad!
