Hey people

My wife has a SONY VAIO VGN-NW23GF it only has 2g of memory im looking to upgrade it to 4g but not sure how i would go doing it and what kind of memoory to use.

in the notebook atm it says its got DDR2 PC2-6400 at 400mhz if that any help

thanks guys

If you are in the UK look at different supplier sites and look for DDR2 Note book memory of the type you require (DDR2 PC2-640), I did a quick look at Overclockers UK and Scan and both have this type of memory and in different sizes. Normally on a lap top you have to unscrew and small panel on the bottom to access the memory then push out the clips either side and flick up the memory from the top then pull out. fitting the new is the reverse procedure. Some laptops not sure about the Sony have an empty memory bay so you can add more. If your doesn't then just remove 2gb stick and insert 4gb stick

THIS is the service manual .pdf. Go to P101 to see the instructions, just read around a bit as you please.

Finding the memory itself is easy enough, but you want to make sure its either the same as the one you have already, or the better bet is buy a 4gb stick or 2x2gb new sticks, so they are the same.

I'd say go to www.crucial.com for US or www.crucial.com/uk for UK and "Scan My System".

Crucial UK will scan your PC and tell you what you can upgrade and you can buy it at a very good price from them
