ah the joys of open forums and the ability to block some ones post's is brilliant.

How ever the best coarse of action is not to respond to argumentative people.

So even though i cannot see said person posts any more i can see other's can.

Just let it slide guys while he digs his own grave. Personally i don't feel insulted in any way and would no longer take offence at any thing written.

This is the internet after all.

I'm digging a grave? I'm not the one turning a blind eye to a serious crime. If you think the material is obscene, go to the police. Otherwise it appears that you're just a cowardly, self-important attention-seeker. And if it's not obscene, stop whining about it.

So disagreeing with someone is "kicking up a fuss" now? Wow, someone else who wants all dissent silenced...

As I would class the article (the article you are in disagreement with) as disagreeing with someones actions in the first place then I am simply following your logic.

I at no point expressed a wish for you to keep your mouth shut. I'm completely in favour of a grown up debate about a serious matter. You, however, are simply being antagonistic and it wont get your point across

How am I being antagonistic? If this material is obscene, the police should be alerted, as selling obscene material to minors is a serious offence. So why haven't they been?

Wow this topic has some fire (roar), but seriously both arguments do have valid points.

Jingles states his points and facts quite clearly, and so does Mayhem. I didn't see anything aimed at his dyslexia, I have it also and wasn't offended by anything :nono:.

I do agree to some extent to Mayhems point of the topic, some posts were a bit 'forward', but then again everyone has opinions.

Lovely forum with lovely guys, let's keep it.

PS - Anything else to tell Mayhem? (news)

holding cards to chest for the moment . lol awaiting feed back from news agency that are investigating it fully now. They all ready been round for interview and photos ...

Right getting back on track and doing a little more reading and having some one sitting next to me who is going for there degree in law has come up with some thing interesting

Er, I don't mean to be a *****, but I wrote about the pornography/obscenity issue in my post last week. I'm just mentioning this because I feel like a lot of people have made some very good points throughout this thread that you might have missed.

So they are producing obscene material that a child has access to. which under definition of law could be considered illegal ... So what they are doing could be considered illegal in the representation of UK law

Let's get this straight here - you (and a few others) have decided that these ads are "obscene". I'd suggest that the magazine industry is not the lawless bandit-country you seem to think it is. Rather than simply running any ads that come their way, regardless of the legality of their content, the companies involved (the publishers and the advertising agency) are very careful not to run ads that are legally "obscene". These companies are probably more aware of the intricacies of the law than you or I. In fact, I would eat my hat if they didn't have a lawyer make sure that everything they publish was completely kosher. Hence the reason the ASA gave you the brush-off: although the contents of these ads may occasionally offend some people and lead them to define these ads as "obscene", they are actually nowhere near the legal definition of "obscene".

If Lars von Trier's Antichrist - a film which features all types of graphic sex and violence, including genital self-mutilation - was not deemed "obscene", then I don't see how you can suggest that these ads are (yes, the film got an 18 certificate, but this is no way the same thing as calling it "obscene".

Your very correct in the assumption that I think ur making that publishers, not only publishers but many company practices, run things through their legal departments that check on legalities and standards.

I'd think in this case, as with many other legal standpoints, just cos the word of the law may say that a publication is within it's rights to print what they do and to perhaps target who they do, that they and the laws are not necessarily right.

I would love to have a world where we could live without the censorship of anything what-so-ever. I do actually personally believe in this. But there are those that should be protected by the obvious candidates, that blatantly are not. Whether they be parents, vendors or just the establishment - who either have the instruction and don't follow it, or c-b-a.

I bet out of all the "news"agents up and down the country, u could find more than 1 of them that have top shelf material on lower shelves. May not be correct - may be cos 99.99% of their clientele are "blokes" on their way to-and-from-work, but nevertheless they will flaunt the issue not cos they don't know but cos they cba and 99.99% of the time the magazines are purchased before any minors ever enter the establishment.

Eitherway, what about the 0.01% ?

In anycase. I'd not personally want the age of a minor displayed within this article reading or purchasing the published material being discussed - simple as that. If the laws happen to say they can get away with it, which is probably the case, then frankly it needs changing.

I represent an organisation called The Front Page Campaign. We are all about protecting children from pornography in magazines and newspapers. We have information you may find useful on the law etc (or lack of it to be more accurate), and we would be very interested to speak to you about this post as we are looking for evidence such as this. Please check out the website and contact us! www.thefrontpagecampaign.org.uk

I don't believe those magazine's cover are damaging children, I would like to know:

a) how those images are damaging children

and

b) what research you have to prove this damage is taking place.

Holy thread bump batman.

Anyway, those with the 15/18 stamps are only for the demo disk. Like if their was a Red Dead Redemption demo, the magazine would be classed 18 just for the demo disk, not the magazine itself.

When I was around 13 I could buy the Redline mag (car tuning) which was covered in boobs.

Aye, I don't think it's a massive issue really. Though it does depend on age eg. if my 8 year old was reading those pages I might stop him doing so, but unless it's an actual porn mag I'm not overly fussed if the kids are mature enough to understand what they're looking at.

Hi there . I never did finish off the article the mag has pulled alot of it content concering these issues all though they denied it was because of my constant harassment and the amount of hit they got and abuse off parents on there forums.

Allso WH Smith , tesco, asda all moved them to the top shelf's in local stores were kids could not reach for them.

Personally i was happy with this How ever with the recent events in my own home concerning my own son. My children are no longer allowed to play xbox or ps3 games any more and the systems have been sold off. Now they have there PCs only (or laptop) wich is strictly controlled on where , whom and what they play. Oh allso my arcade games wich i have full controll over !!!

not only does the content in mags currpt kids but allso does the games they play hence they are no longer allowed to play any games wich are FPS , only adventure puzzle games and no longer then 1 to 1 1/2 hours a day if and only if they have been good.

Its a sad fact that games , publishers and more over idots who haven't got a clue let this happen and i dont care about there arguments.

Over the last few moths my attitude towards gaming has changed alot and with that so has the way my kids are allowed access to such content. from mags to game across the whole spectrum of media.

Oh and if you own son trys to stab you with a knife and threatens your girls to do the same to them because he was taken off his xbox to do a errand then maybe your own attitude may change.

Mick

I wont be commenting on this tread or the situation any more.

Well I thought meh, don't be stupid Mayhem, until I got to the bottom of your post. Did your son really do this? If so I can understand you worry, but there is no proof it's from games. You've taken something away from him and if he said he was gonna stab you, doesn't mean it was games. Take a look at the news, constant killings, stabbings and all they show is war and violence, but these have no age rating afaik.

He most likely would of done the same if he was out with his friends and had been playing cowboys and indians and you said get in and do your chores, he would go in a mood and say stuff.

umm yeah.....

so please tell me why after having a games console all my life and playing the likes of resident evil, and man hunt (yes the sufocate people with bags and slash with glas etc) have i never ever had the urge to slice someone up or sufocate anyone?

End of the day to do such things you need to be :

A) child with learning difficulties / mental health that see's things and thinks its right to do so yet doesnt know it as wrong

B) F'ked in the head

C) deprived and not taught whats correct and what isnt by parents.

end of day i see people being raped etc on eastenders does that make me an evil person and want to rape some ladies.... no ....

Exactly, I have yet to see proof of bad behaviour being the caused by magazines and it's content. I for one loved buying car magazines for the babes in the back, I was like what, 11-12 and I think I turned out normal and so did my other 7 friends who got the same magazine. At 12 I was watching and selling pornography we would tape onto another VHS via our own media setup we had going. We would sell a 1 hour long German porno for 50pence and be able to go cinema by the end of the day... no harm done, and I watched those religiously. Looking at a magazine isn't going to make me wonna go grab some boobs.

EDIT: LOL WELSH WATCHES EASTENDERS LOL
