so I'm looking at the Z68's available and my head hurts lol SO after reading reviews on this board and that board I am no closer to deciding. As I know alot of you lot already have 1155 cpu's I was wondering your opinions on the Z68 boards out there. Currently deciding on an MSI Z68A GD80 The Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4 but open to opinions and suggestions PLEASE PLEASE say why you like what you post Couple key items for me are SATA6GB ports the more the merrier but must have at least 2 that support raid ) I can live with my WD Blacks on sata3GB ports

Thanks for looking and ur suggestions

the MSi is a bnib board for another forum for 170$ shipped

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130597&Tpk=MSI Z68A GD80

the Gigabyte would be purchased here

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128494&Tpk=Gigabyte gA-Z68X-UD4

edit added links and corrected DA to GA in the gigabyte board lol

If it were me I'd go for P67. If you're going with a descrete gpu & an ssd setup the additional features of the z68 chipset are a waste of time.

msi one dude, i would go for that if its my cash, but if you wanna put a extra 100 notes down get the high end asus one.

my 2 cents

Well I would thoroughly reccomend the ASUS P8Z68-V PRO, I love the BIOS, it simplifies absolutely everything, and you get to use your mouse, and its also a very nice looking board. Has the 2x Marvell 6G ports, 2x Intel 6G ports, 4x Intel 3G ports. In my opinion the only downside is the colour of the PCI x16 slots, I'm not sure of the exact colour, but anyway, its a great board. You've seen the pics

2600K is a great CPU.

well I will admit besides having what I want on the mobo the Gigabyte has me so far as I'm lovin the color scheme It'll go well with the rest of my case mods when I get down to them lol

You should also switch to a AMD GPU, Much better

lmao I doubt that very seriously hahaha whats ur addy I'll be right over with my big nVIDIA stick to bash some sense into ya

but seriously been wanting to play around with intel and it seems SB is taking the crown for now and the preliminary BD reports have me thinking my AMD isnt all that. Hell I have what most would call a top end AMD setup as it is. But as we all desire MOAR POWER and I'm finding some decent deals like that 2600k for 270 shipped thats 49$ off and its BNIB

and for those suggesting the high end asus's yeah I would love to snag one of those but budget for board (until I sell my AMD setup) is 200$ mainly because I want to get 1866plus ram as well right now I have 270$ in my cart at newegg with the Gigabyte ud4 and 8GB of gskill sniper 1866 ram if I sell my AMD setup this weekend then I may look at higher end boards and faster ram

my vote goes to the UD4. Great looking board. im liking the all black board ( too ya long enough Gigabyte ) and the blue highlights on the heatsinks. for the money.. its a rock solid buy.

Because it was put up against every other motherboard in the same class and beat them all.

It overclocked better than any of the others too.

It was also a great price.

So, I guess if you base a board on its ability and price then that would make it better than all of the others if it performed better than the others and cost less.

not doubting you at all bro just wanted to know why you said what ya said is all. I am not opposed to a P67 board as I have 2 ssd's I use in raid the IRST inst a selling point for me and as I have a 570HD IGPU isnt all that either. What I want is what you said the best one to oc with. Might you possibly have a link to the site where it was tested against the others????

The Sabertooth was the quickest at stock speeds but it couldn't overclock as well as the MSI. It was 100mhz short of the mark which of course isn't much, but the MSI was way cheaper to boot.

I mean don't get me wrong they're all pretty much right around the same, but the MSI had the extra sparkle at a keen price.

yeah been reading what I can here and there seems the Sabertooth was faster at most and as it should be since its geared to gamers. But in reading some reviews of the MSI P67A-GD53 (B3) now that Z68 is out its around the same in performance across the board. These days I guess its more the luck of the cpu bin lottery than anything else lol. I'm still tossed about it and now after reading what I have (please dont ask where lol I have read so much my brain hurts) I'm adding the Sabertooth P67 into the mix. Since I ssd raid IRST inst that important to me neither is IGPU since I'll be discrete gpu. So now I guess its down to looks and ports I want/need that will decide the winner

Well the Sabertooth is always going to win favour over the looks... If you like them.

I do. I think the shroud is kinda cool, reminds me of the old Capcom CPS2 arcade JAMMA games

well I need to decide soon lol just sold my AMD setup and on my lil ones 775 rig lol boy does it sux

well I went with the GA-Z68 UD4 seemed to be the one I kept coming back to. And it was 20$ off at this time plus picked up 8GB of GSkill Sniper 1866 Ram for 72$ another 13$ savings lol withy luck I have it all by next weekend and I only have to suffer on this 775 setup for a week lol.

The Gigabyte isn't so hot yet.. If it's the one I am thinking of.

I'm sure the bioses will come good in time though.

The MSI performs better than any other, but Asus are and always will be the best for support and bios.

Not only that but Asus continue to sort out the bioses waaaay past the usual shelf life for a motherboard. They continued to update my M3A32 bios right up until I got rid of it a few months back. They added full hex cored Thuban support where others couldn't be bothered. Their attitudes was "well just buy a new board, preferably from us !".

If Gigabyte can do with the Sandys what they did with X58 then they're onto a winner. The X58 UD3 is still among the best boards on 1366 and cost bugger all. Their 1156 boards were fantastic too.

AlienALX I did check into it very seriously I dont take recommendations lightly. One of the reasons I'm going SB because I believe the writing in on the wall for AMD. I kept researching the ASUS P67 Sabertooth and yes while they do have the best bios The MSI are very stonking as well But most reviews I read were more negative towards them for this or that. True the gigabytes bios is lacking but you still have the same stuff the other have ya just cant use a mouse. No issue for me lol. Out of all the reviews I read the UD4 shined the best in my eyes. True the UD5 shone best but at 50$ more it had less of what I'd use and more of what I wont lol. The UD4 came in right where I wanted it.

I appreciate all all recommendations y'all gave me. Now its time to build it when it all gets here. And see what she'll do.
