newbie pump help/advice

hi all want to check I doing this right, I got myself a Phobya DC12-400 its got a 3 pins fan type connector on I've removed the yellow wire from pin 3 and placed it in another socket I robbed from a spare fan
If I run power to the original socket and run the other with just the yellow back to the cpu fan header will this be ok?
I know it probably wont tell me the correct pump speed but that doesnt matter I'm hoping it will do away with the cpu fan error and if the pump should fail shut me down and save any rich smoke making

You can just set the system to ignore the CPU fan in the BIOS to get rid if the error.

thanks for reply Sebar I'd rather not ignore it or put a random case fan on it I'm thinking I can use it with the pump as a checker that it is running is there any reason I shouldn't do this?

Not at all,using the RPM wire as a dead pump catcher is good thinking and works a treat.
I do it myself.

nice one got it fired up first time today get a rpm reading just got to figure out if/how to make it stop if pump fail got some playtime now
