Totally devastated ATM peeps :(
So let me tell you what's happened, when I put my system across to my new case I plugged the new Coolermaster fan hub into the CPU header on my motherboard to control the fans, and they were running a bit fast and loud so I jumped into the bios to slow them down

So the fans didn't show up in the bios so I changed it over to pwm as that's what my fans are, nothing so I shut down and changed the plug from CPU to system fan one underneath my pump header.
Turn the system on no signal from the GPU and no lights on it so shut down put in my GT610 nada look at the board and it says my CPU is either dead of not being recognised

So it looks like just swapping a fan header has killed my CPU and GPU I don't know how the effin hell something like that could possibly happen but it did to me and I'm totally gutted right now words just can't express it enough....................

That sucks!

Take it you've already tried all the normal trouble-shooting stuff? Reseating, building outside of the case etc?

I had a build not boot once as one of the stand-offs for the mobo threaded and was causing a short.

Just did an out of case test and the CPU is dead I fitted the stock AMD cooler zip but there's some light at the end of the tunnel I pulled my 2600K and board out and tested the GPU in it and it turns out the GPU is ok

Something sounds off with that, I wouldn't ever think a CPU could be damaged by changing a fan header.

Does your board give an error code?

No buddy just the led's and the cpu one lights up and the chipset fan screams max chat
and I get no sygnal with any gpu either

Does the CPU LED light up to say all is OK or to say there is an issue?

Have you tried a BIOS Flash back?

Other than that I'm not sure what else it could be if all else seems well.

It lights up only when there's an issue I've cleared CMOS and she's cactus I think :(

You could always ask the retailer if them can provide an advanced RMA for you to cut down on downtime.

Good luck mate.

Thanks buddy!
Im really lucky though I get looked after really well by MSI direct so if it's the board they'll sort it if not then my supplier will be great too when it comes to the CPU so I don't really have too much to worry about in that department fortunately and I have this MSI laptop Im on now for the down time so I still get my OC3D family fix :D

Do you know if its the CPU or motherboard that died? Strange to think that a fan header and a fan hub could kill a board.

I hope that you can get things sorted ASAP.

Because the cpu error light is coming on maybe when you did the transfer you damaged the PSU aand CPU is not getting the juice it needs to power on. I'd try another PSU before RMA.

If you have someone near you with a Ryzen CPU maybe try using that? Or ask a retailer to test a CPU swap? If it works you know it's the CPU. If not it's probably the board

Thanks Mate and I'm not sure as to what is dead

The same PSU powered on my 2600k and GPU just fine so I don't think the issue lies with the PSU

And no I don't have anyone near me with either a chip or board, I'm sure I'll get the RMA number on Monday once MSI get my emails and I'll leave the CPU in the socket and send the lot to them and they'll test it, if it's the board they'll replace it if it's the CPU I know my wholesaler will replace it I'm quite lucky in that regard

Well a little update, MSI sent me an RMA number this afternoon and I've already sent my board and cpu off so hopefully they'll find out which one is the issue in the next couple of days

That's good. Hopefully they will be able to figure this out.

G'day to my OC3D family, well I got some good news today after running tests it turns out my 3700X is fine it was the board that folded and after waiting for new boards to arrive in Australia and then retesting both the CPU in the new board everything is running sweet so MSI are putting it in the post for me today!
