New screen confusion

Am looking for a 22" monitor to replace my old 19". Have been looking at a couple of Samsung's, both the T220 and the P2250. The T220 is only a 1680x1050 but is £133 whereas the P2250 is a 1920x1080 and is £190. Other than that both seem to have a pretty similar spec, don't know whether the higher resolution is worth the extra money or if the T220 would be a very decent upgrade in itself from the 1440x900 I'm used to atm. Please help!

personaly id buy the 1680 res one, then sell the 19" then buy a 2nd of the 1680's, should be about 210 total? much better than a 1920 res imo

For me, 1920x1080 is a cop-out resolution. Mainly aimed at those who would watch a movie more than a game. The real standard for monitors is at 24" 1920x1200. 1680 x 1050 is a 20" standard.

I'd love to mate though afraid only have the room for 1 screen. Multiple screens is definitely something I'll consider once I have space. I have heard similar things to what Rasta was saying about 1920x1080 being a bit of a cop out and that a lot of new 22" models seem to being having these panels. But the price is quite tempting... I could probably stretch to the 24" with a bit of saving and have a full on 1920x1200 but don't know if i've got the power in my machine to get the most out of it with Q6600 @3.5GHz and 1x 4890 1GB @960MHz. Would another GPU help as seriously considering crossfire with 2 4890s (both vapor-X coolers)?

Id still go with 1 1680 monitor and then wait till you can fit a 2nd, Tho it depends on the games you play (if they suport crossfire ect ect) to if you would get great fps at 1920

i have a fairly similar set up to you (if games support crossfire 2x 4850 is similar to 1x 4890)

Q6600 @ 3.6

4gb @800 4-4-4-12

p5k premium

4850 512mb CF

i get over 50 fps minimum at anytime on tf2 @ 1920x1080 maxed so a 4890 should beat it as valves crossfire support isnt very goood if i remember correctly,

grid i get around 30 at 1920x1080 with 8XMSAA (not the best with ati cards)

oblivion gets around 50 maxed @ 1920x1080 aswell (has pretty good CF support in later patches if i remember correctly)

Having a 1GB 4890 kicks my cards behinds at larger res's so it should do well unless your playing like crysis (and who would want to do that anyway :p)

TLDR: the 4890 should be fine for alot of games @ 1920, but will run prety much all of them decently @ 1680

Yes you do. My HD4850 @ stock laughs at most games at that resolution. You might not be able to run everything at 'ultra uber pwning high' but the difference in graphics with the normal 'high' is marginal and the performance difference is huge.

Cool, very tempted by the T240, if I save up a bit then should be able to stretch to it and 24" will certain be more futureproof. Hopefully, the price might drop a bit between now and the time I order it.
