Have you changed the BIOS settings for it? I would suggest setting the RAM voltage to what GEIL recommends and altering the timings as well

thanks for helping me but u have to be more specific im rubbish with pc tbh lol how do u do that then? lol

Go into BIOS (either F2 or Del key at POST), go into RAM voltage options and up it to what the RAM recommends. Then find the memory timings menu and set the first four timings to what the RAM recommends. There's a label on the RAM that should have this information, failing that their website should have it

Ouch, I was kinda afraid of that.

Chances are the HP bios is one their ones u can`t change much stuff in.

hmmm what to suggest.

I assume if u take the memory out, it never crashes ?

yep when i had my old 1gb one never crashed once but now since the 2gb it has crashed alot n i mean lot!!

think its gettin worse!!!

I would find out which mobo you have (6150 is not the model) than go to its site and find out what memory they recommend for the mobo.

i havent tried that yet but i cba to put it bak in

the inside is a mess n its hard to reach the ram this is what u get when u buy a pc of comet

you could have those problems with even new very high end parts. You just need to find memory the mobo likes.

well i didnt really go upgrade by much

was

1gb ( 256 x4 ) 533mhz pc2 4200

now

2gb ( 1gb x 2 ) 800 mhz pc2 6400

or was it that much????

"Could be" that the frequency the motherboard runs the original memory is ~barely~ able to run the newer memory, AND the voltage supplied to it.

Seeing as u don`t seem to be able to change either of the settings of those cos of the HP bios, u could be stuck.

Only a few things I can think of.

a) Try the 2 sticks of the 2g in different slots. Preferably either slot 1 & 3, or 1 & 2. (slot numbers are on the motherboard)

b) Look at the original memory for a sticker on the side of them that will say something like 4-4-4-18 1.8v - or similar. Compare this to the sticker on the new memory.

Some motherboards are more picky than others about memory, the memory sticks can look the same but can need different timings and voltages to run sometimes.
