Hi,

I am planning on building a new i7 rig and want to overclock the 2600K to 5Ghz or over.

I am not sure if I should go for the Asus P8Z68 V Pro, or the Gigabyte Z68X UD5.

Also, any other suggestions on other parts will be greatly appreciated.

I need to sell my old i7 930 build in order to buy this one, so I cannot spend too much.

The most I really want to spend is around $1800, and this new build adds up to around $1600.

Thanks

This is the new build:

Case: CoolerMaster HAF X (Replace front 230mm Red LED with blue) $219

Extra Case Fan: BitFenix Spectre 230mm Black Tinted Blue $22

Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro B3 $249

CPU: Intel i7 2600K $315

Extra Fan: CoolerMaster 120mm Silent Blue LED Fan 90CFM @ 19dBA (x3) $45

CPU Cooler: XSPC Rasa 750 RS360 $149

Water Coolant: Koolance Fluorescent Blue Liquid Coolant 700mL $19

Hard Drive: Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 2TB 7200RPM SATA III 64MB Cache $119

SSD: OCZ Vertex 3 60Gb $159

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X 8Gb (4Gb x 2) 1600MHz CL8 $95

Power Supply: OCZ ZX Series 1000W $219

Graphic Card: Gigabyte GTX460 Overclock SLI already have)

the gigabyte is a great board I have one got to 5.3GHz on air with it and my 2600K look for my thread "going for the gold" in the oc section. I have the UD4 baord 189$ saves ya 60$

I would get an Corsair HX or AX850.

1000 Watt is an overkill, + OCZ psus are an accident waiting to happen, I'd know!

Dont get Koolance Fluorescent Blue Liquid Coolant 700mL - Get distilled water, PTnuke and/or Killcoil and Mayhem's Dye If you want colour.

Also unless you have it already the Hitachi, its probalby isnt the best choice.I would look for a decent Barracuda or Caviar Black, obviously not as important as other parts but just a suggestion

These are the other power supplies i'm looking at:

Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W $219

Corsair AX750 Gold $215

Corsair HX-850 $219

Silverstone Strider 850W Gold $209

Should I go for the Caviar Black 1tb or 2tb?

I think the 2tb is faster...

But its like $80 more

So I could get 2x 1Tb Caviar Black for only a little more than the 2Tb

Is it possible to run the 2x 1Tb Caviar Black in RAID with the SSD?

I don't think you can? but you can deffo run the 2 1tb in raid seperatly. also take alook at enermax and seasonic psus they are 2 of the best out there. after all seasonic makes corsair psus

and as for the caviars if memory serves me correctly, the 1tb has 32mb cache and the 2tb has 64mb cache? In any case i would probably get the 1TBs becuase i like to spread my stuff out across the Hardware but in your case raid is probably the best option.

PM tom if you can't find it anywhere but its very well known so if you ask at where you buy your parts they should probably know.

750w is more than enough for sli gtx460

Corsair would be my choise. If you can stretch your money a little, the ax850 is one of the best made psu.

Both corsair psu you have listed would be good choises.

a lil word of advice go with the AX whatever size ya choose as the one thing that bugs me about my HX750 is the 24pin and 8pin power cables that are hard wired in are not black or sleeved to the connector. I hate seeing all that color when I'm trying to go with specific ones.

Ok, I have settled on the AX850, because it was only like $30 more than the AX750...

Also, I think ill get the Caviar Black 1Tb SATA III because I have another 1.5tb samsung, and a 1tb barracuda...

Case: Looks good, get the CoolerMaster MegaFlow 200mm Blue instead though, it fits in the 230mm slot and has better airflow (I have that fan)

Extra Case Fan: Had the BitFenix's before, they are awful, loud too. Go for the fan I suggested above

Motherboard: Looks great, I have the same. Blue theme too.

CPU: Intel i5-2500K is also good if you're just gaming, up to you

Extra Fan: See above

Hard Drive: Get a WD Green 1TB for storage, 110MB read and write

SSD: Maybe a bigger one?

RAM: Looks good

Power Supply: Get the Corsair AX850, its all you need and its great

Graphic Card: Nice

Forget the Smart Response thing, an SSD as a boot drive and a HDD as a storage drive is faster.
