Looks a good choice to me but the 5770 is about roughly the same price now as the 4890, and u get dx11 support.

You may need to think about upgrading your o/s to a 64bit system as with 3gb of RAM and 1gb on yer graphics card you are gonna start loosing memory.

I cant see you getting too much of a botleneck on your cpu as a quad core running at 2.4ghz still aint too shabby!!

Excellent monitor btw, I not long ago bought 2 and put them in a dual monitor setup....well happy with the quality!!

-1 3gb of system memory(any more system memory and then 32bit wll play up)! graphics memory does not come into that! u will be fine!

I beg to differ, a 32 bit o/s can handle a total of 4gb of RAM, this includes system memory, graphics memory and sound card memory, any memory over 4gb will be lost..

thanks for all your encouragement, i was just worried about losing the cards really nice graphics to bottlenecking so thanks. Also, will my type of motherboard affect if the card will work or not? which part of the device manager describes my mobo?

For the make and model number of your mobo u will need a util like everest or sissandra, CPU-Z will also tell you some information m8e....and yes the mobo and chipset u use will have an effect on performance!!

Right. heres my motherboard information

Manufacturer = Packard BellBV

Chipset = Nvidia ID07c7

oh and it says the card is ddr5 so will that work as well?

Sounds like a cheap generic mobo m8e ~:(

New gcard cant do too much harm thou fella even with a ****ty mobo :)

Least when u decide to build yer own puter u have a good basis for the build :)

id buy a new mobo ( cheap asus p5k prem or simular) clock the q6600 to 3ghz -3.6 dependant

to get the bets from the new GFx card and id say a 1gb 5770 tbh

mm i just read some website saying it was quite a good motherboard, ignore the packard bell label

if buying a new mobo is not an option... will i see a difference?

dude your going from a 9600 gs to a 4890/5770 i think thats a total no brainer lmao!

you will see huge in game improvements and all your current spec is fine :p

the motherboard you currently have i think is just a re branded 630i motherboard...yes its not the greatest and nvidia boards are the vermin of boards, but it should do just fine with the 4890/5770.

and lastly i would go with the 5770 dx11 40nm + dx11 ftw?

*bump* plus also when i was thinking of a new card i completely ignored the Nvidia cards. If i had a choice i wud always go nvidia, and it might work better with my nvidia mobo? I looked at the gtx 260 (around same price as 4890), how does it stand up against the 4890?

260 = 4870 ish they both punch around the same weight.

The 4890 should just pip a 260 in most games.

With your budget I still say your best choice the minute is the 5770

mm and what about a higher nvidia card like a gtx 270/280?

i still want the one thats gonna work well with my mobo (nvidia)

wud pc world have a good selection lol?

gtx 275 is a contender for the 4890 it gets beat sometimes but then beats the 4890 sometimes,they are good cards tho so if it was me ide pick the cheapest or best bundle but ide lean moe to the 275 IMO

stay away from pc world

mm so 275 cud be an option, which type btw cause theres like pny, asus etc Do they reduce the quality?

lol yeh everyone tells me not to go to pc world :)
