New build will it work?

I built my i7 machine 2 years ago now, not interested in overclocking or watercooling. I like the way it looks and it performs to a T.

I hang around the Gaming section where I belong so I've no interest in the latest CPU's as I don't intend on swapping mine out for a few more years, only graphics cards. I do my research when I need to :) just getting that clear.

Cheers for the help, those that did.

It's the newest range of Intel CPUs. Intel Core iX 4xxx. They use the new socket 1150 motherboards with Z87, H87, B85 and Q87 chipsets.

Edit; Maybe it would be easier if you gave us a budget, what the use for the computer is going to be, if he wants to overclock and what components he needs. We could spec you something better :)

You sir are by far the most helpful person I've seen around these forums.

He's building the rig for gaming, like I said I'm giving him a reasonable GFX card to help him keep the budget down. We just need the MB, CPU, RAM and a reasonable PSU.

I'd say up to £400 for him on these 4 components, we'll sort the rest ourselves.

Cheers

I'd recommend this:

PSU - Corsair CX500m:

RAM - Corsair Vengeance (The one you already had):

CPU - Core i5 4570:

Motherboard - Gigabyte H87-HD3:

I see that the z68 board you had chosen is discontinued now anyway :)

He could use the remaining 50 Quid for a 60GB SSD, which is always a nice thing to have! I'd recommend anything Samsung Pro/Evo, Intel, Kingston or Crucial.

Edit; Intel 330 60GB:

A 5830 gpu? Running Bf3 on high? I don't know if that's even possible.. Anyway from what i can see/tell BF4 will be more demanding on gpus than BF3 by quite a bit and perhaps cpus as well.. Might want to consider upgrading the gpu.

Yeah mine runs nearly all games on high with my current 5830. However I'm upgrading mine to a GTX 760 in which is why I'm giving him mine, we don't have a massive budget so come on we're trying our best here... as soon as he feels he can upgrade the GPU I'm sure he will mate.

Feronix - Thanks bud I'll pass the details on and let you know the outcome!

May I ask what resolution you are running at and what resolution monitor your friend has? If it's not too high I guess that card will do for now, but I do recommend him to upgrade in the near future.

Can always leave the SSD for now and he's already halfway an HD7770/GTX 650 Ti Boost.

Full HD is 1920x1080 mate, hence the '1080p' :)

I just honestly can't believe it that card runs that well, but obviously you've seen it so I'll take your word for it. Still recommend him to upgrade in the not-too-distant future though, especially when he wants to upgrade to a higher resolution screen.

Are you doing a build log? :)

I doubt it, he just wants it setting up ASAP. If it was my machine I'd defo be building a log!

It's a Radeon HD so I'd expect HD ;) maybe didn't expect 1080p but hey it does!

HD 5450 is also Radeon HD and that's a 20 quid card that can't do shit :p

Well at least everything will work, the upgrade ability is there with the 500Watt power supply. :)

I've got the corsair 550W its great. So all should be great, thanks for the help!

I heard the 5450 is the most powerful card out there for £20 what you talking about.. ;)

i bet 100$ it can run it on ultra. couse i used to play on ultra when launched on gtx 275. single player ofc.i had to lower the settings to play on 64 maps.but couse of the cpu mostly.NOT AT HIGH fps obv....but fluid enough.so yeah,it can. maybe he is not a fps freak.still better than console so leave him be till he gets other gpu.

+1 Feronix. those parts are good. and do not buy a Z board with a locked cpu.

^^^ I was assuming he meant at 1080p at that time of the post was written. He runs a lower resolution so in his case yes he may very well run ultra at a low res.

lel look my laptop can run bf3 on ultra, only 3 fps but it runs!
60+ fps or it doesn't run.

dude.cmon. 3 fps ? leave out the sarcasm and that stuff. 35 fps is playable.2011 game,do you think that everyone had gtx 580`s? cmon man.
on medium you jump over 60.
some ppl are fine with 30-40 fps. 60 fps he says....

so yeah ,its not a 780,but its decent.

^Thanks for these videos, now that's actually helpful instead of all the pointless argueing ;)

Seems like he'll be fine with this build and if it's needed in the future, the upgrade possibilities are there :)

60 fps or gtfo. this isn't a single player RPG.

35FPS is perfectly reasonable, and playable - especially on ultra. Drop that to high/medium and you'd get 45/50+.

I'd assume you'd be telling all of the MSI Gaming laptops to 'gtfo' too...? Good one.

Quit with silly standards you have for gaming - I'm pretty sure if an Aftershox member has got through it this long on a 5830 then it will be fine.

For the record - I used to have a 5830 and it played games perfectly fine. Tbh, you don't even see the need to want higher until you've actually had higher yourself...
