Network speeds

I need to do something about my network speeds for transferring files.

I have my laptop sending films to my PC getting <10MB/s speeds...

CAT5 cable to Cisco catalyst 2950 switch. This is then connected via CAT5 to the PC

Thats it...

I'm not sure if its down to what mode the switch is on, atm its "Stat" as opposed to "Util" "Duplex" or "Speed"

Not really sure what each of those modes offer, but still I'm having some crap network speeds!

With overhead, you're speeds look fine. The 2950 is a 10/100Mbit switch. Take the 100 and divide it by 8 and you get 12.5MB/sec. That's the max you will be able to transfer on it.

If you are only connecting a few devices you can get a cheap Gigabit swtich for under $50.

Hmm ok I see

Which mode do I want it on out of the ones provided?

Could it also be responsible for gaming "spikes"

The four modes you are talking about only change how the LEDs work on each port. When it's on speed mode for example the LED will be lit on the ports that are using 100Mbit. The LED will be off on ports using 10Mbit.

It's purely cosmetic and will have no affect on performance.
