But now I can't seem to find the right software.

Always draw on paper. Scan it if you want it digital. Software is only good for logos as they need to be drawn precisely. Drawing & anotating by hand is quicker as well i find

Photoshop, you might even be able to do it in MSpaint.

Publisher all the way; Just finished my magazine for my A2 Double IT and tbh i think it rocks.

For high end publishing, w/out money costs just use Open Office or any of the other free open source softwares out there. Good luck too btw.
